OMAHA, Neb. -- Billionaire Warren Buffett donated stock in his company worth $41.6 million to eight unnamed charities during the second half of 2011.

Buffett revealed the donations Wednesday in a year-end update on his Berkshire Hathaway Inc. stock holdings.

Buffett gave away 521,292 Class B shares of Berkshire stock between July and the end of December. These gifts are in addition to Buffett's annual gifts to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the four Buffett family foundations that are slated to eventually receive most of Buffett's fortune.

The new stock donations included one sizeable gift of 394,737 shares worth roughly $31.5 million.

Buffett has said he plans to eventually donate all of his 350,000 Class A and 26.2 million Class B shares of Berkshire stock worth about $44 billion to charities.

I wonder if Mr. Buffett is paying taxes on his donation. As I can recall, Obama wants to take away almost all the tax breaks of people giving money to charity. So if that happened and Buffett gave away all of his fortune, he could owe the government billions in taxes for money that he has given away.

He will do anything to get out of paying taxes on things that he has...such a hypocrite

Can ever someone like Buffett be a Republican?, Just give an honest thought and answer to yourself in a mirrow, I am 100% sure I know what your answer will be.

sorry to burst your bubble, but if you look at the tax returns of the republicans,...they donate more to charity than most democrats...but they don't have to broadcast it as it is really charity...with buffett giving the shares away...it enable him to pay less in taxes.....it would be nice if his company paid the government the million they still owe us

Operation USA (www.opusa.org), although worthy, did NOT get one of Warren Buffett"s contributions.

i know your organization does help people, but you shouldn't be voicing anger because he didn't choose your charity to donate to this time. It is his choice to choose who to donate to. Maybe your group will be chosen next time, but the pissy attitude isn't helpful.

You should have made a plea to him, i'm sure he would have obliged.
