Daniel Radcliffe: 'I Didn't Expect' 'Harry Potter' To Get An Oscar Nomination

Muggles the world over were upset and dismayed by the lack of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2" Best Picture Oscar nomination this year, but it seems the film's star, Daniel Radcliffe, isn't that disappointed.

In Toronto promoting "The Woman In Black," Radcliffe seemed positively zen about the lack of Academy recognition.

"I didn't expect it to be nominated for Best Picture, and no, it doesn't faze us," Radcliffe told Moviefone. "Just because we've been around for a long time, and made a lot of movies, I don't think when you come to the end of that series that anyone's obligated to say you're best picture. Obviously it would have been lovely, but I don't think it's something we're going to be losing sleep over."

Not surprisingly, Radcliffe doesn't really place a lot of weight on the Academy Awards as a whole -- and sits on the fence when it comes to winning one as an individual.

"I have mixed feelings about awards for actors in general," he said. "Obviously it's a lovely thing to be recognized by the public or by your peers, and I'm sure that's a very gratifying thing. But I always have a moment when I watch those big ceremonies... we love to pat ourselves on the back in this industry, and we like to tell ourselves how well we've done and how amazing we are. It's all very self-congratulatory."

As for some British press talk of him winning an Oscar for "Woman In Black"?

"That's very kind, but very insane."

Check out Radcliffe in "The Woman In Black," opening in theaters on Feb. 3. Come on back to Moviefone for our full interview with Radcliffe next week!

Honestly, I really think Deathly Hollows part 2 shoud have bagged a nomination from Oscar's Best Picture category

Does this not concern anyone?

How deeply Jewish is Hollywood? When the studio chiefs took out a full-page ad in the Los Angeles Times a few weeks ago to demand that the Screen Actors Guild settle its contract, the open letter was signed by: News Corp. President Peter Chernin (Jewish), Paramount Pictures Chairman Brad Grey (Jewish), Walt Disney Co. Chief Executive Robert Iger (Jewish), Sony Pictures Chairman Michael Lynton (surprise, Dutch Jew), Warner Bros. Chairman Barry Meyer (Jewish), CBS Corp. Chief Executive Leslie Moonves (so Jewish his great uncle was the first prime minister of Israel), MGM Chairman Harry Sloan (Jewish) and NBC Universal Chief Executive Jeff Zucker (mega-Jewish). If either of the Weinstein brothers had signed, this group would have not only the power to shut down all film production but to form a minyan with enough Fiji water on hand to fill a mikvah.
... I had to scour the trades to come up with six Gentiles in high positions at entertainment companies. When I called them to talk about their incredible advancement, five of them refused to talk to me, apparently out of fear of insulting Jews. The sixth, AMC President Charlie Collier, turned out to be Jewish.

In a company I worked in when I was 6 we had an employee of the week award, a lot of people said I should have won it on many occasions but I'm a 'gentle', or am I a 'gentile' person?

There's only one reason Harry Potter isn't up for an Oscar, and that is that is a British film. People are not stupid, the British know. And it's the least of their worries. Like Michael Douglas once said, the Oscars are completely fake anyway. The sales of the films is success enough. Well said Daniel.

His modesty and self effacement does far more credit to him from the Public perspective than any statue, well done Daniel Radcliffe.

He had the good fortune--literally--to star in 8 films while surrounded by the finest actors Great Britain has to offer. For holding up his end of the bargain--admirably--he's earned tens of millions of dollars. He doesn't need a gold-plated statue to fill some void. he's already set for life.

So many good actors, movies, are just as great but only a few get to win. It is disappointing that this happens year after year. It does often tally up an actors/ producers/directors street credit and that is where the real value comes in. Nice to see some people you got to work with once again, right? Other than that, not much happening there.

So far, The Woman in Black, looks intriguing and Daniel's look for the film should give kudos to the make-up artists. He looks sharp and fit for the period role he's playing.

I adore Dan. He is a terrific young man. I hope he always stays as grounded as he is now... that being said, any Oscar race that doesn't include the brilliant Alan Rickman is worthless. The whole point of the show is to award excellence and yet they leave the most excellent out of the race. Every head in the theatre I saw HPDH2 went down when Rickman did the Great Hall scene. It was visceral. He owned that role. If that isn't acting... then what is?

Yes, this is true. He was great in that role. I would think the difficult part that comes in, is that he is great in so many roles, they feel guilty nominating him for an award every time he plays a part. That is the only reasons I can see for his getting passed over. This role wasn't as tough as his Sweeney Todd role that really took him way over the edge of sinister, repulsive and down right on the money with that role. So, maybe that is why he missed out?

So many played their roles so well, you would almost feel guilty singling any one of them out. You might feel that you are leaving out all of the other great actors who just owned their parts and kept the whole serious so interesting to want to watch.Ah, J.K. Rowlings. Thank you for giving us such a treat that I will be sharing with my grandkids as soon as they get old enough.

I could not follow the movie very well. But I think he will have a very long career.

As expected, Daniel Radcliffe is well-spoken, gracious, self-effacing, intelligent and charming. It's amazing how he addresses junk questions with respect; and doesn't feel entitled, but has a grasp of the bigger picture. I'm glad he has a lot of young fans, they can learn a lot from his humor and demeanor.

Well said Daniel. Nice to see an actor who has such a great grasp of what's important.

I'm relieved this film didn't get nominated. I've never seen it (nor do I plan to), but I'm sure it doesn't deserve an Oscar. The Dark Knight should have been nominated a few years ago and didn't, so why should Harry Potter VII Part deux? But they should acknowledge more mainstream films, you know, pictures that most people actually see. They say viewership for the Oscars is down. I wonder why. Who's going to watch a ceremony devoted to films that they just became aware of a month earlier?

"I've never seen it...but I'm sure it doesn't deserve an Oscar."

Everything you write after that has absolutely no credibility.

Just because I don't wear Harry Potter pajamas like you, or sleep in a bed with Harry Potter bedsheets like you do doesn't mean I lack credibility.
