Naked PETA Protestors Disguised As Corpses 'Wouldn't be Caught Dead Wearing Animal Skins'

Naked corpses on the streets of Montgomery, Ala., might mean the long-feared zombie uprising has begun and we poor humans might as well just prepare for our brains to ripped from our skulls and eaten.

For better or worse, however, these corpses were actually members of the animals rights group PETA dramatizing their animal rights agenda.

"We had two people painted to look like corpses, wearing underwear [and] holding signs that read, 'We Wouldn't Be Caught Dead in Animal Skins,'" PETA campaigner Katie Arth told The Huffington Post. "They were in stand-up coffins [that] we set up to draw attention to the suffering of animals used for fur, leather wool and exotic skins."

Other activists held signs that read, "Wear Your Own Skin -- Let Animals Keep Theirs" and "Fur Is Dead."

Arth said the goal was to get people's attention and give them the opportunity to question what goes on behind closed doors at fur factory farms.

"Most people love animals -- [they] grew up with dogs and cats, and are just less familiar with animals like foxes and cows," she said. "The things done to them to turn them into a pair of shoes or a coat would be felonies if done to dogs and cats."

The protest took place in front of Henig Furs, Leathers & Outerwear in Montgomery. In addition to holding signs, the activists handed out leaflets to curious onlookers.

"Most people don't want animals to suffer for their clothes but they do," Arth continued. "Animals are often skinned alive. On fur farms a common manner of slaughter is anal and vaginal electrocution. So we were out there to encourage people to make compassionate choices by choosing synthetic options instead of real animal skin."

Tascha Jones, one of the corpse protesters at the event, said she is happy to bare her skin whenever it helps save animals' skins.

"With all the luxurious alternatives available, there's absolutely no excuse to wear animal skins," Jones said.

It all comes down to what women want. They want to live exotic lives. Those wigs, fake eyelashes and all that make up is not what makes a woman beautiful.

PETA 100% completely lost me when they attacked Mario (super mario bros.) for having a racoon suit. How am i supposed to take anyone seriously when they seriously gripe about that.

Cody,
...we have a long intestinal track unlike the carnivores and good reason for us to have record levels of cancer in the last few decades and rising!! Wearing faux fur over real makes you feel great knowing that an animal did not have to suffer for us. Cheers!

More synthetic material next to our skin is probably not going to make us any healthier.

...neither is chemically cleaned, treated and dyed fur, besides other than organic cotton everything else is chemically treated and synthetic. What to do ...

But it sure will make an animal healthier. Besides you can feel very good that an animal was not murdered so you have something to wear

....and we have big brains, forward facing eyes for stereoscopic vision (depth perception), k-9 teeth, an appendix and superb cardiovascular stamina; you know, like a predator. All apes occasionally eat meat. If you want to argue there are more sustainable and humane ways of raising and harvesting animals that's one thing but you should stay away from the herbivore argument because science is very clear about what we are.

The only reason they are standing there naked and alive is because humans, for thousands of years, kept our species alive by wearing animal hides to keep us from dying of exposure, and ate animal meat to survive. We have omnivorous teeth for a evolutionary reason. Deal.

It has everything to do with it. We didn't just appear on this Earth recently, unless you're a Christian. Everything now, in 2012, is happening because it was shaped by our evolution over the eons. Also, between the caveman era, up until very very recently in the modern era, people kept warm with animal hides, and ate meat to survive. It's not as if this stopped in caveman days and we have been eating tempeh for 30,000 years since. So, to ask people to throw down their evolutionary training because some people feel hyper sensitive about eating meat, is probably not an attainable goal.

You can't separate our evolutionary past from modern day. It shaped us and made us what we are today. You're right, this isn't cave man days, but, beyond cavemen, people have been using animal products to survive up until 2012. Yes, today we have synthetic materials, but we didn't even 75 years ago. There are many poor areas in the world that still use animal products because they don't have our fancy western products. To instantly drop using animal products is not attainable. Our conscious and subconscious is programmed to do so, and our teeth have evolved to be omnivorous. It's not cave man times, but we have our modern teeth thanks to them and other humans over thousands of years surviving in their environments. Also, my knuckles do drag, and I'd thank you to not make fun of my physical handicap. It's not nice.

Dear PETA,

I do worry about animal rights. In fact it is no. 41,256 on my list of things to worry about.
10:44 PM on 01/29/2012
Grew up on a working farm; we grew our own vegeables; raised chickens, cattle, hogs, all were eventually slaughtered for food; nothing was wasted, feathers were used for pillows and for applying medications to skin; cattle hooves and horns given to family pet dogs; just about everything was used from hogs; so in my experience don't have anything against slaughtering animals for food or household usage; if animals are not slaughtered then we will have an over population of them like dogs and cats in US; if I want to wear fur I will, but actually do not like it since alot of the fur sheds

Agreed...we need to kill animals for food, we need to hunt because if we didn't animals (like deer) would overpopulate, eat all the food available to them, then slowly starve to death. So we are helping them as a whole by hunting them. I also grew up on a farm, so I know what you mean by using all of the animal. Also very very good. But there is a difference. We farm folks actually needed all the parts of the animal..my beef (pun totally intended) is the fur coats. None of the rich people that sport these need that for any other reason than to show off a dead animal. Thats what grosses me out.
01:40 PM on 02/02/2012
agree totally on that the animal should not be sacrificed just for its fur
06:52 PM on 02/01/2012
Now, on a farm, you are providing for you and your family with what is necessary. Skinning an violating animals just for their fur is sickening, especially when there are so many alternatives, which are usually much cheaper. Any ignorant creature suffering is very sad, but not nearly as sad if there is a good cause. I do think we should raise the standards of life for the animals raised for meat and skin, though, because most are not raised on the farm like you were, but in terrifying and disgusting conditions.
01:38 PM on 02/02/2012
agree that more to animal than just fur; also after seeing documentaries on how meat from animals is processed, very scary that we all are not dead from contaminated meat; should had some type of regulations in effect that are ENFORCED!!!
