Puppy Bowl 2012: Kittens, Pigs And Birds Play Supporting Roles (VIDEO)

What do puppies, piggies and birds that use Twitter have in common? They're all going to be a part of the Puppy Bowl, a Super Bowl alternative which celebrates cuteness over gridiron prowess.

With Super Bowl XLVI barely a week away, some fans are already asking, "Are you ready for some football?"

If you aren't, then get ready for some puppies. Puppy Bowl VIII, which will air on Super Bowl Sunday on Animal Planet, is the cutest bowl you've seen since, well, Puppy Bowl VII.

During the Puppy Bowl, you'll get to see adorable canines on a miniature football field showing off their cuteness. But that's not all.

This year's 58 puppies will also be joined by other animals in supporting roles, which, of course, add to the cuteness. According to the video below from Buzz60, the Puppy Bowl will also feature 20 kittens, five pigs, one bird and "a few hamsters."

The kittens will entertain the crowd at halftime, the piggies will lead the pep squad, the bird will be tweeting updates from the game and the hamsters will be "flying" the aerial coverage blimp.

Buzz60's Maureen Aladin explains that all of the puppies in the Puppy Bowl have been rescued from shelters across the U.S. She jokes that while "no puppies have endorsement deals," they all now have loving homes.

Tune in to the Puppy Bowl on Animal Planet from 3-5pm ET on February 5.

I hope the kittens in the half time show are a little older this year. The little guys on last years show looked confused and scared. Slightly older kitties would be curious about everything and playing with each other more.

Either you can't read or you just needed to push your soapbox agenda.

The Puppy Bowl has always been about rescue dogs. I'm surprised you're not familiar with it. It's been around for eight years now.

Everyday I see the Puppy Bowl on the HuffPo Politics section. They're mostly ravage dogs sadly.

Since Tebow and the Broncos didn't make it through the playoffs, I'll be focusing mostly on the puppy bowl! Go hounds!
