Ugg Boots Banned
Administrators at a middle school in Pennsylvania were tired of kids hiding cell phones in their boots -- so they banned the boots. The new rule applies to "outdoor, open top boots" in general, but the biggest culprits are Uggs, says a district official, particularly those that reach to students' mid-calves and are lined with fleece.

Let the kids have the phones as long as they're not using them in class. School sometimes seems like prison nowadays. This is 2012 and cell phones are no longer novelties, so find a way to deal with things in modern times

Another example why I'm in favor of banning cell phones in schools, and for school uniforms. Both would make things much easier.

They should be banned - they're hideous.

Agreed they are hideous and grossly overpriced at that. Not to mention the cruelty factor!

If I want to look hideous, I should have the right to do so.

If there is a no cell phone during class rule banning certain types of clothing or footwear is not really the answer. However, if that is the rule and a student breaks it, simply confiscate the phone and make the parent come retrieve it. Second offense, phone goes in the trash.

Okay, Yes they're ugly but like those nasty Crocs and Birkenstocks they are darn comfortable. In any event don't ban the cell phones, kids always win in these scenarios. Ban use during class and in areas like the library. Let them use them in the cafeteria and outside.

Seems the Principal in this case is OUT OF TOUCH WITH REALITY AND TODAYS TIMES.

This is ridiculous, kids will find other spots of course. The Principal in this case must be very old or just simply out of touch with TODAYS times. My sons school allows the children to have cell phones and also has a guideline to when there to be used etc. Philly Area.

Why ban the phones themselves? Just ban their USE. If a kid is caught using the phone in school or doesn't turn off the ringer, make them clean the cafeteria. A horrid, disgusting punishment that worked well in my day.

school administrators have become petty, irreverent, morons. I would home school my children if I had it to do over again.

My daughter's school tried to ban cell phones and that only resulted in kids finding clever ways to break the rules.

They got a new principle and he compromised. The kids could use their phones between classes and lunch and were restricted from being used inside the classes.

Everybody was happy with it.

Yes, I know that's not what the article is about, but I couldn't help myself.
