Bob Bashara, Husband Of Strangled Michigan Woman Jane Bashara, Reportedly Failed Polygraph Test

New Details In Strangled Michigan Mother's Murder

The investigation surrounding the death of Jane Bashara, a Michigan woman found strangled in her car Wednesday, is now centered on her husband Bob Bashara after sources reported he failed parts of a polygraph test late Friday.

A tow truck driver discovered the body of Jane Bashara, a 56-year-old mother of two from Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan, at around 7 a.m. Wednesday morning in the back of her Mercedes SUV, which was parked in an alley on Detroit's east site, according to 7 Action News.

Her husband Bob Bashara had reported her missing at 11:30 p.m. the night before, telling police his wife had stopped at home in the afternoon but wasn't there when he returned home from work, according to WDIV News Detroit.

The cause of death was listed as a strangulation and the case is now being treated as a homicide. Bob Bashara told Grosse Pointe Park police he believes his wife may have been the victim of a carjacker, as it was unusual for her to travel to the area of Detroit where her car was found.

"I believe she was out running an errand and doing something and someone either carjacked her, kidnapped her, did something like that. I have no reason to believe she would be at 7 Mile and Hoover for any reason," Bob Bashara told the station.

That was before Bob Bashara failed parts of a polygraph test administered late Friday, though investigators did not specify which parts of the test, 7 Action News reports.

Police do not believe Jane Bashara was killed inside of her car, according to 7 Action News.

Hundreds of neighbors expressed sympathy and support for Bob Bashara at an emotional candlelight vigil Thursday.

In an interview with WDIV News Detroit, Jane Bashara's sister Janet Gottsleben commented on the case's recent developments.

"For my niece and nephew's sake, I hope to God Bob didn't have anything to do with it. But I'll tell you one thing; I want to know what happened to my sister," Gottsleben told the station.

Bob Bashara told WDIV News Detroit he has no idea what happened to his wife and is devastated by her death.
