Nerd culture is nothing new, but it has enjoyed a healthy boom in popularity over the last few years. The fans are knowledgable, loyal and most of all, passionate. So when when we went on a hunt for the most bizarre fan art on the Internet, it wasn't too surprising that the majority came from the science fiction, fantasy and video game genres.

These are just a choice selection of the most confusing, bizarre and in some cases disturbing pieces of fan art on the internet. Super creative or just plain weird? We'll let you guys decide.

"Nerdy" fan art. Yeah. Sure.

You know, I always feel really awkward when mainstream arenas attempt to explore and dissect fandom. It always seems to be rather painful for both sides. For fandom because they get an outsider's perspective on themselves but also for the mainstream arena that "exposes" fandom because this kind of thing never makes the them look as cool and hip as they wanted--due in large part because they usually just end up showing pictures that fandom has either collectively shrugged at or surreptitiously saved onto their computers at least a decade ago, painting themselves as painfully out of the loop on the thing that they're reporting on. Sure, those who have never been in fandom can now point and laugh at the "nerds" (not an entirely accurate description) or go, "Wow, that's weird" (which, okay, yes, there's a point there but it's moot because fandom already knows that it's strange; it's self-aware like that). Those IN fandom, however, quirk an eyebrow and say, "Really? You think THAT'S weird?" and then eye those who don't understand as the truly weird ones. From there, it's either take the blue pill and go back to life to be blissfully unaware or take the red one and go straight down the rabbit hole.

tl;dr: Let sleeping fandoms lie, already.

While I whole heartedly agree with you, a pregnant batman knocked up by superman is weird...even by fandom standards. And I actually understand WHY it was created...... O_0

Yeah, mpreg tends to be a bit inherently weird, I'll agree with that. :) It's one of the few places where a great deal of fandom still says "Uh...DNW" and takes a step back (even if other parts rush gleefully towards it). However, is a pregnant Bats more weird than, say, a pregnant Joker? How about Optimus Prime? Or what about a pregnant Severus Snape who seems to be constantly knocked up by Harry Potter?

I just think that we could go *weirder*, you know? Like Inception. Just weirder, and weirder and until you're not sure that it's even weird at all and OMG, what if this is all just normal and what you *thought* was normal was really weird after all?! D:

:) I mean. We could add some tentacles, maybe some egg-laying... How about some knotting? Let's go all out. XD
