Jan Brewer, Arizona GOP Prepared To Spearhead Next Fight Against Unions

The fight over union rights may be headed to a new battleground in Arizona, as the state's Republican legislature and Gov. Jan Brewer (R) are gearing up to push a full slate of anti-union legislation targeting public workers.

Brahm Resnik of the Arizona Republic writes that the package of legislation is more extensive than similar efforts in Wisconsin, which last year ground the Badger State's legislature to a halt and eventually spurred a highly popular recall election drive against its Republican governor, Scott Walker, and other state lawmakers.

Resnik provides the details on what the Arizona proposals are intended to do:

--Make it illegal for government bodies to collectively bargain with employee groups. Public safety unions would be included in the ban.

--End the practice of automatic payroll deductions for union dues.

--Ban compensation of public employees for union work.

Brewer has also announced plans to strip civil-service protections for state employees, making it easier to fire public workers.

"Our current system would not be tolerated by any business in this country," she told the American Legislative Exchange Council at a policy conference in December. "It's much better if we have an employment process and policies that works more like the private sector so that you get rewarded if you're a good worker. The way that it is today, you don't get rewarded. There's no incentive."

Brewer has reportedly been pursuing the measure since mid-2011, when she asked legislators to take up her proposal, but submitted her request too close to the end of the legislative session.

The package of bills is scheduled for a hearing Wednesday before the Senate Government Reform Committee, Resnik reports.

Arizona is no stranger to legislative conflict. In 2010, the state pioneered a controversial immigration enforcement law, Senate Bill 1070, which has sparked countless legal challenges and civil disputes. The legislation, which has since been followed by similar measures in a number of other states, will be heard by the Supreme Court later this year.

Russell Pearce, who, as Arizona State Senate president helped draw up the blueprints for SB 1070, was ousted by a Republican challenger last year in a recall election. The group behind that successful effort has since announced that it is looking into potentially mounting a similar campaign against Brewer.

With the potential culmination of conflicts over both union rights and immigration enforcement -- two of the most controversial issues at play on the state level -- Arizona could well become ground zero for the conservative agenda, as well as the focus for the inevitable pushback from those who oppose the measures.

Jan Brewer wants to save the State Union Money so she can Embezel it.

It has recently been exposed that Wonderful Jan abused her Government Authority to shuffle/manipulate Social Security paper work to get her knife point Rapist Son Ron $75,000.00 Reward for his Rape, from Social Security while Ron served his Sentence in a State Facility already being Totally cared for by Tax Payers Dollars to the tune of $601.00/Day for years.

Jan Brewer Says: "We are a land of Laws, all Laws."

Social Security Fraud Laws?

No not for Good Ole Honest Jan, only the Anti Immigrant Laws which fill the Private Prisons for her Wealthy Staff Chronies!

Next Book: "Social Security Fraud for Supper"?

Or Perhaps: "M.C.S.O. Pink Jail Panties at Breakfast"?

To: Justice for all?

Seems fair enough. No public employee should be paid to do union work. Public unions need to realize that they are in public service. This is different then a private union. I support Jan and Arizona 100% on this bill. Go Jan

In view of the "Recall Walker" efforts by the people of Wisconsin, in addition to public sentiment for them throughout this country; Jan Brewer has just added fuel to the fire! The Tea Party can kiss their jobs good-bye at every level of government throughout this nation!

This all comes from the national Republican governors meetings when they decided that they would set their own agenda instead of that of the voters and pit public workeers against private. Public workers aren't the enemy------Republican governors are. . I hope these people in Az get something on the ballot to recall this governor and Scott Walker, John Kasich, governor of Indiana,Michigan and Florida and all of these Republican governors who are trying to make it hard for people to earn a living wage

Oh Republicans, another state to go for a thrifty working class. The race to the bottom never ends in Repubicans states. Pretty soon well be making what the Chinese make per hour.

I am not a big fan of the unions, but this time I think Brewer will find many turning against her...

This time? The only people that haven't "turned against her" are cranky old white men, her handlers, and the ignorant.

My friend,

She still has enough support in the state. People tried to recall her, but they could not gather enough signatures to start the process and the initiators gave up.

This will be new ammunition in that war. Probably she will make easier to recall by supporting this kind of laws. I heard that some new immigration laws are in preparation in Arizona these days...

So now we know what Brewer was saying when she wagged her finger at the community orgnizer last week. A nearby microphone picked up the conversation which went, "Your Royal Highness, I'm going to rid this state of your greedy, parasitic puppets once and for all. I have no intention of letting these parasites do to my state what they've done to so many states where they have yet to be exterminated."

Then there some inaudible comments from his Royal Highness, and Brewer picked up again, " I don't care how much they give to you. That is not the purpose of their dues payments. This was never meant to be the "money laundering" operation that it is. You want their dues, you get their permission and you collect them. Now, what are you here for that pulled me away from listening to Rush!"

You go girl!

Yes, In her very pathetic way she was saying that I am going make sure we turn the middle class public workers in Az into poor people on food stamps. Then we can call you the Food Stamp President in Az.

Has there been any situation where there were unions and not blamed for the financial woes either public or private? Never once have you heard the people in charge take a hit. It's always the workers....GM gave us the Chevy Vega and the Chevette while Toyota produced the Corolla. Let's blame the unions for that garbage and not the decision of the people at the top. I'm not saying unions don't deserve blame but I have yet to see the people in charge get any blame.
