Bod 4 God? The View Chats About Gluttony In The Church

First Posted: 02/ 1/2012 1:06 pm Updated: 02/ 1/2012 1:06 pm

God wants you to lose weight! At least that's what a new book called Bod 4 God by Pastor Steve Reynolds preaches. While The View host Whoopi Goldberg worried she was 'going to hell' for not choosing faith over food, fellow cast member Sherri Shepherd insisted church people don't talk about gluttony enough. What do you think?

I don't know what God has up his sleeve but so far the devil's tactics appear far more effective. It's baffling how a mistranslated book is the focal point of so many misguided conversations. It's even more baffling how so many claim to know/understand the desires of an entity that can't be understood. If God created the cosmos and everything in it, that means his understanding is of the cosmos and everything in it. For humans, who are only capable of speculation and theories, to even claim they know what God wants is simply moronic.

"What do you think?"

I think they are delusional at best, dishonest at worst. There are no gods. Some of them know it but carry on talking as if there is (those are the dishonest ones), some of them don't know it (those are the delusional ones).

I'll get my coat.

Evolution is proven, religion isn't. Evolutionary change takes 10,000 years, while human civilization is barely 6,000. Humans are still evolved for a time when we were gatherer-hunters finding plants and chasing animals, no settlements, farming or domestication of any kind.

We are evolved to crave the fat and sugar we get from a diet of plants, berries and hunted wild animals which contain very little. We are not built for a 50 year old diet full of fat and sugar which we are eating.

People are fat because they overeat, are lazy, and eat a diet full of fat and sugar. Anyone who says otherwise is in denial and looking for an excuse to stay fat. And anyone who was religion has anything to do with it isn't educated enough to speak on the subject.

The meat supply has become totally corrupted.
Cheese and dairy products are not ment for human consumption.
Nobody has ever died because they didn't eat meat.
zillions have died cause they ate meat.

Most of the animals are deseased and loaded up on toxic substances that gets passed on to the eater. After chicken is slaughtered it rinses in a pool of water for an hour to wash the fecal matter
Heres something your grocery guy wont tell you. 10 % of the poop, absorbs into all the chicken while its soaking. Yep. 10% of chicken is duty, and your eating it.
I learned this watching 'Walter Veith " on youtube. Hes got some good diet and health you can see for free.

You eat whatever you eat......we'll eat what we choose to eat. If you aren't aware most of the things called food today are toxic in someway to some degree.

Only one church in the world can claim to have a health and diet message.
That church is the Seventh Day Adventist.

It's pretty basic: the majority of us are given the reigns when it comes to what we eat and how we exercise. But confidence in maintaining good health is low, and it leads to a slow progression in weight gain. This can be said for greed, addiction, whatever it is. God simple doesn't come into the picture. We're an unhealthy world, and it's making everyone pay more taxes, blah, blah, blah. Let's just talk about getting fit, without it being glamorized. Getting fit should be a duty unto yourself - something you do -for- you, but also with a bit of everybody else in mind. And if God's so damn worried, why the heck doesn't he come on down here and flaunt it? I'm pretty sure his weight's like a yo-yo with our carry on haha! Gah, what a wonderful world... em...

Just like everything in life, one can over do a good thing. I would like to know where the heck common sense got put on the shelf. Look thru the Bible, fish, fruits, nuts, wine, water, honey, milk, cheese. Does not talk about all the crap we call food now. So use your head, stop following the crowd. Use common sense. Treat each other with respect, respect yourself . Then they also walked a lot. We are spoiled now, can remember picking fresh green beans, tomatoe's from garden for dinner. Also we only one big meal a day, we had left overs, or light dinner in evenings. And everything was home cooked no fast food, that is what is killing us.

We are all made in the image of God. So we should be taking care of ourselves like the body of Christ , that is including spiritual health...

I am not a Christian but I see their point. If you believe in that, God gave you this body and you should appreciate it by taking care of it. I'm pretty sure the Bible says that your body is a temple. Treat it like one.

The reason poor people are heavy is because of the price of food; it is cheaper to buy fattening food then diet food. This may have changed though in recent times but as the economy tanks more I am sure prices will rise making diet food more expensive.

No, the reason poor people are "heavy" is because they are FAT. I agree with you to a point about the reasons that they are eating fatty foods, but to avoid calling them fat is avoiding the problem almost to the point of being an enabler.

Saying heavy instead of fat is not only less accurate, but also being disingenuous. Bodybuilders and stocky individuals are heavy but not fat, the obese are merely fat.

Edward...

I think what you are saying is that it is cheaper to buy low quality foods, that are high in sugar and refined carbs like white potatoes, white rice, and white pasta. The complex carbs found in whole grains which are made in to whole wheat pasta and breads, are generally more expensive. Unless a product says 100% whole wheat on the label, you are not necessarily getting a healthier bread than white bread. It may look like whole wheat, but a careful inspection of the label will tell you that nutritionally, it is not all that healthy.

Brown rice is much healthier for you than white. You can eat much more brown rice than white and never gain any weight, assuming you don't slather it in butter and sauces. But then again, it is more expensive than white rice.

To lose weight, one doesn't need to buy diet food, just healthier food. Additionally one must exercise at 30 minutes daily, and control portion size. This could mean something as simple as 30 minutes of walking, take the stairs instead of the elevator, parking at the end of the parking lot instead if near the door...etc...

Unfortunately, fresh produce, vegetables, good fish and lean meats are more expensive than canned and processed food. When you have limited funds, it could be hard to have food choices which make healthy eating enjoyable. Add to that a sedentary lifestyle, and obesity will reign among the poor.

Sherri is dopey since God knows everything you do and is concerned with how you act towards others if you are eating with a silver fork in your mouth. If you are barely making by and have to eat fattening food which most poorer people do then he is not going to punish you for being heavy. He will look down on people though who spend enormous amounts on food with little concern for others who are starving and without food. The only reason Whoopi may go to hell is because of her filthy mouth which she has used in her comedy routines on her road to fame.
