Kanye West Heading To The Middle East? Sources Say He'll Film Second Film

Kanye West

Kanye West may be heading to the Middle East to film another short film, according to sources familiar with the musician's plans.

The Observer reports that West -- who recently did a stint behind the turntables under the moniker YEEZY WORLD PEACE (yes, all caps) -- has sent scouts to the Gulf region to scout locations.

The film is expected to be a short art piece, in the vein of his 30-minute music video for "Runaway." The earlier film starred Victoria Secret's angel Selita Ebanks as a birdlike creature who descended upon West's home for a trip filled with eerie Michael Jackson tribute parades and fancy banquets interrupted by a troupe of ballerinas.

While West's plans are as yet unconfirmed, New York asks an important question: Does this mean Kanye won't have time for his "Jetsons" movie?

West's creative team is said to be seeking out local talent in an effort to create a project with an organic, respectful feel.

Those worried about that the brash hip hop star may not do justice to the region's culture should be assured that the Middle East has a proven ability to survive Western cultural incursions. After all, the Sex and the City gals filmed a movie there.

West has often mentioned that he is a citizen of the world in his songs. On "Watch the Throne," he and Jay-Z's album of rap monarchy anthems, the rapper berates those who are less traveled, admonishing them for not "being accustomed to customs."

For more, including why Kanye supposedly picked the region, head over to The Observer.

I love Kanye. So he has confidence. Does that bother you? Don't you think that's what his mother would have wanted - and did want - for him? Go hate on someone else.

Good for Kanye. Way to bring some light and positivity of that region to the West. After all, unwarranted negative BS is all we hear about those places.

By the way, if I were West, I'd choose Doha. It's an absolutely gorgeous -- and underrated place.

Filming in the Gulf, Dubai, etc. is not that spectacular or ballsy. They worship the West in that region. Going to Iraq, Egypt or Lebanon would be more interesting, and I think he'd be well received in those countries as well.

one of the doctors I work with regularly was born and raised in Iran, he always talked about how popular american music was there in the 80's, especially pop and ska

Ska and 80s pop were English, and they are still popular everywhere. Loverboy, not so much.

Is the Middle East big enough for the mind-blowing talent that is Kanye West? I mean, the man has written the soundtrack to our lives. Who can look back over the last 15 years or so at any event in their lives and not hear a kayne song playing in the background. Songs like...ahhh....hmmmm....give me a second here....ahhhh....uhmmm....ok, whatever, but I remember when he dissed a bunch of different people...that I can recall...and I seem to remember him having a rather inflated opinion of himself. But who am I, small little human next to the glorious pomposity that is KAYNE!
