Neil Patrick Harris Denies 'American Idol' Seacrest Replacement Rumors, Talks 'How I Met Your Mother' (VIDEO)

Neil Patrick Harris Addresses 'American Idol' Seacrest Replacement Rumors

NPH, out.

Neil Patrick Harris appeared on "Access Hollywood" on Monday and quickly got down to business, addressing two big rumors that have been pinging around the Internet.

He downplayed speculation that he's in line to replace Ryan Seacrest as host of "American Idol." (Talk of Seacrest's possible departure has heated up lately, now that he is launching a new TV network and has been floated as a possible replacement for Matt Lauer on the "Today Show.")

"I found that out too, online," Harris said of the rumor. "I would not want to do that job at all. I'd rather be a judge on 'American Idol.' That seems like the fun gig. You don't have to memorize, you just sit there and judge if they're good or bad. But, poor Seacrest has to read that little teleprompter thing."

As for the show he is on, "How I Met Your Mother," the actor said he hopes to stay with the CBS comedy beyond the eight seasons for which the entire cast is contracted. That said, he doesn't plan on negotiating for the same deal as co-stars Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, Cobie Smulders and Alyson Hannigan.

"I don't think so ... we all kind of do our things," he said. "I would assume that people like Jason Segel make like a gazillion dollars because he's a big movie star."
