Spice Girls Union Jack Dress Gets A Makeover By Geri Halliwell (PHOTOS)

In the mood for some '90s nostalgia? Let Geri Halliwell, a.k.a. Ginger Spice, be of service.

The former pop singer has debuted a new and improved version of her 1997 Union Jack dress for high street retailer, Next. Halliwell has collaborated with Next on a series of dresses, swimwear and shoes. But the new Union Jack-themed collection for Spring 2012 should make the biggest splash yet, writes the Telegraph.

On Thursday Geri, 39, presented the centerpiece of the collection, wearing the new red and blue frock alongside an image of the original from the 1997 BRIT Awards. While we are wistful for the days of those red Buffalo platform boots, streaky hair and pigtails, we have to admit that the 2012 version includes several improvements, including sequin embellishments, a higher neckline and several inches of hemline.

Plus how cute are Geri's navy patent leather pumps?

As the Telegraph notes, the original dress was auctioned off shortly after Geri's memorable performance for about $65,000. The new one, while offering considerably more bang for your buck (in terms of fabric, at least), will retail for a much-cheaper $315.

Brace yourself for major flashbacks and take a look below (and flip through the slideshow -- a gift awaits you at the end). What do you think of the revamped Union Jack look?

If Pippa Middleton is ever photographed wearing a union jack mini dress, this website will orgasm for a week.

Um the old version doesn't qualify as a dress...it's in shirt territory.

It also looks like a bathing suit, circa the 1950s. In fact, I think my mom had one in that style, though not the Union Jack print.

Think the young Duchess of Cambridge should wear this at the opening of the Olympics this summer! (Just kidding.)

I actually love the new version! I don't think any of us normal people would be able to pull it off (where could we wear it? the cheesecake factory? haha!), but it looks great on Geri!

Just a comment... Flag etiquette ( http://www.usflag.org/flagetiquette.html ) states (for the US Flag):

The flag should not be used as part of a costume or athletic uniform, except that a flag patch may be used on the uniform of military personnel, fireman, policeman and members of patriotic organizations.

Of course, this is not law and Wallyworld sells thousands of tees every Fourth of July plastered with flags, stars, stripes, etc. But, I'm just wondering how the Brits feel about this?

We're not too bothered about flags, the monarch is more a symbol of Britain than the flag.
