Lana Del Rey On David Letterman: Artist Keeps It Simple For 'Video Games' Performance (VIDEO)

Lana del Rey gave a simple, straightforward rendition of "Video Games" on David Letterman Thursday night. Save the white dress, there was no trace of the uneven performance she gave on SNL a few weeks ago -- the artist instead hemmed close to the version that shot her to internet fame. Letterman was taken with Del Rey, or did a good job of acting like it, asking her if she could come back tomorrow.

"My pleasure," Del Rey replied softly.

"How about Monday?" he added.

Her voice is absolutely fantastic. So rich, flawless and effortless. Tone is remarkable. I agree that she is not the most exciting performer, but she is a super star. She is weird and that is just how I like the singers that I admire. Who wants a super normal singer to be a fan of? Not me. Weirder the better.

Aww stop beating up on her - even though she's a manufactured pop singer she is clearly an artist. That can't be completely faked. If her father is rich at least she is out there taking risks trying to make something of herself instead of relying on reality tv to make her into a no talent celebuturd. And I love her ladylike fashion sense. So nice after decades of half dressed writhing fleshpots.

Nothing wrong with that. Very nice. I suspect some of the people who don't like her expect lots of explosions in their movies, too. Seriously, we're in need of some understated singing. The high-volume warblers are getting tedious. American Idol has just about killed the art of singing for a living.
I hope she does well. Her lyrics are a tad trite, but a little maturity may fix that.

I like her. I had never heard of her before, but I just watched several of her videos on you tube.
She is unique and has a unique haunting quality to her singing. Seriously, she reminded me of adele in some strange way. Her bluesy, renditions are sad and yet, they hang around after you listen to her. I listened to several videos and can see why shy got the award last year for breakout artist. Yes, she is different, and I normally don't like this kind of music, but the music pulls you in. Don't ask me why, but I actually liked some of her songs. Very captivating. I bookmarked her you tube videos and will watch more at a later date. Interesting, very interesting.

this faux outrage and criticism of her is nothing but mob mentality, including the cruelty and thoughtlessness of posters here. news flash - not everyone in the music business needs to have the pumped-up fake polish of american idol contestants. she's an interesting songwriter with an expressive voice who's trying to get to something soulful with restraint and mood. i'll take a dozen of her, human flaws and all, over the automaton 'entertainers' who are manufactured by the corporate music business any day.

It's easy to forget that those on stage and on the screen are actually flesh and blood human beings with all the messy stuff that comes with it. No matter how thick their skin, feelings can get hurt, especially when it comes to someone not well versed in the ways of the bright spotlight and the fickle ways of those who wield it. So, after the drubbing this girl got after her recent SNL performance—regardless of how much of it was warranted—it was cool to see Dave and Paul give her a nice bit of an ego boost after her decent performance on ‘The Late Show’ last week. Looks like she needed that.
