Sure, you know Madonna Louise Veronica Ciccone has three kids, two marriages, and a boatload of films and albums under her belt. But did you know she's also inspired authors and even penned a few books of her own? Just in time for her Super Bowl XLVI performance in Indianapolis, here's a roundup of Madge-centric books that might alter your opinion of the Material Girl's oeuvre—and private life.

She's not shy about sex. She puts it all out on the table... literally.

Evidence: "Sex" by Madonna

Madge's literary debut caused quite a stir in the United States. Released in 1992 in conjunction with her "Erotica" album, the coffee table book included images depicting Madonna involved in sadomasochism, bondage, and simulations of various sex acts. Model Naomi Campbell, actress Isabella Rossellini, rapper Vanilla Ice, actor Udo Kier (who also makes an appearance in the video for the song "Erotic") and other famous faces (and bodies) pop up in various titillating tableaux. Madonna herself narrates the book as "Mistress Dita." The book, now an out-of-print collector's item, came with a CD packaged in what looked like a condom wrapper, as well as a short comic.

Madonna has been able to define herself as a star for a long time. Why? Because that's what she does better than almost anybody else in show business. She may be irritating and difficult at times, but again, isn't that part of what we like? As her Super Bowl halftime performance shows, she can command the biggest stage and be terrific. She can not be denied, nor can she be ignored. I think that's what stars are also supposed to do.

I do not like Madonna or Madge. Never have, sorry. I think she’s changed young women in negative and selfish ways.

She likes to push boundaries beyond people’s comfort zones. This is a problem because? Her Sex book pushed too far. It helped swing more conservative citizens of into a conservative frenzy that we still suffer from today. It did nothing to loosen the “rules” for women’s behavior and a ton for a return to conservatism. Many of us had fought long and hard to give women the freedoms she flaunted for self gain.

Her dressing and acting provocatively created a backlash. The result? A resurgence of little girls dressing like sex objects ...”Hooter’s Girls Syndrome”. It looked glamourous to have multiple partners, kids, etc. Yet she had the money to hire nannies, homes, etc. Regular high school girls will never have this & now are largely condemned to a life of strife and stress. A life filled with low paying jobs and multiple expenses for kids they can’t afford.

There’s more, but if you’re still reading/thinking, you don’t need it. If not, just thinking of rebuttal & calling me names. That's sad.

There’s always been a pendulum swing to behavioral mores. If we nurture freedoms without pushing beyond the majority’s comfort zone, we keep them and more people experience and embrace them. They're not willing to return to rigidity. If you go over the top (more fame & riches), people go into “knee jerk” mode.

Streisand's had better Golden Years in the Spotlight.

She started with about $30.00 bucks in her pocket and went to new York to make her mark.

Amazing, talented, smart, and fierce.

What a resume too.

When she first came on the scene in the 80's I thought she'd be a one-hit wonder (Borderline) and disappear. Then she stuck around for a while and I thought she'd come to be one of the main representatives of a particular musical era (the 80's). The she kept morphing and keeping up with musical styles, and putting on one spectacular tour after another, and one hit album after another, until finally at some point, I had to admit that I had respect for her. She's nowhere near my favorite musical artist, and she seems like she'd be a pretty annoying person to have as a close friend or relative, but you've got to hand it to her - she's hung in there nicely.
