Super Bowl Halftime Shows: Christina Aguilera, Patti Labelle, Elvis Presto Among Worst Performances (VIDEO)

The halftime show at the Super Bowl has featured some of the greatest musical artists of our time, including The Who, Bruce Springsteen and Michael Jackson. While those performances live on in our memory for all the right reasons, there are quite a few that do the same for all the wrong ones.

We compiled a mashup of our least favorite Super Bowl halftime shows of all-time, and among the unfortunate finalists were Patti Labelle, Christina Aguilera and something that had to do with pirates singing.

While some were less than enthused with pop-icon Madonna being named this year's halftime performer, we think that regardless of how bad they anticipate her performance being, it will still probably top the unforgettably regrettable Elvis Presti experience that accosted viewers of Super Bowl XXIII.

Watch the video above and vote for which halftime show you thought was the worst. Think we missed a stinker? Let us know in the comments section.

Elvis Presto was also a part of the first attempt at "3D TV" when it was pure gimmicks like at Theme Park attractions.

Oh, yes, those of us of a certain age can remember all those horrid "Up With People" shows. Anything is better than that!

When looking at the worst Super Bowl halftime shows of all time, there's clearly a line of demarcation here. From Super Bowl I through XXVI all of the halftime shows were Disney-style/Up With People-type productions. In fact they were so cheesy that FOX did what was considered absolutely risky and yet incredibly daring at the time by airing a special Super Bowl halftime edition of In Living Color during Super Bowl XXVI to compete with the halftime show on CBS. FOX managed to draw 24 million viewers for that episode, which was the highest in that show's history. When the NFL saw that, they freaked out, and the following year they brought in Michael Jackson to play the halftime show. Since then, all of the Super Bowl halftime shows have featured A-list artists.

Now since that time, I'd say the worst halftime show was the one with Christina Aguilera, Toni Braxton, and Enrique Iglesias. And yes, it was far worse than the Black Eyed Peas, which I certainly don't list among the greatest halftime shows in Super Bowl history, but wasn't anywhere near as bad as people have made it out to be. In fact, Madonna's halftime show wasn't that much different from BEP last year, yet she's getting a ton of praise for her lip-synched performances. Then again, we've been spoiled from having some outstanding halftime performances from Prince, U2, and Bruce Springsteen.

WELL.... I was kinda think'n that they missed it by a mile by having Madonna do a half time (even though I've always loved her music)!!! WRONG I was! The show was AWESOME and I think it was good for all ages to appreciate!

WOW

Madonna just rocked the half time show...
whether you like her or not,
you have to admit,
this was an "in-your-face" bit blow out show!

yes yes, She is a very brave performer and really thinks thru the message she wants to deliver. A great American talent and those performing with her brave as well. Very archetypal show portraying the New Rome and all the players in a giant pin ball luck machine. Visuals outstanding. I imagine a few people were shocked by her boldness. But that is what you go to a "show" for and she delivered.

They didn't lip sync the dancing. The show was impressive considering how old Madonna is.

2012 Madonna - garbage, worse than I expected.

Here's an idea: run an NFL Films production on the jumbotron and the CCTV on the concourses for people to watch while they're at the concession stands followed by the network halftime analysis. This would be cheaper, and as insipid as the analysts are, not nearly as bad!

there's a halftime show?

Everyone on hear is saying the halftime show caters to younger people. Other than last year's disaster, when has it featured an artist who was under 40 at the time they performed? Paul McCartney, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, and now Madonna. All of them except for Prince were over 50 when they did the halftime show.

I think they mean "young at heart". You will certainly live longer that way. Also I think the over 50 crowd was much more genuinely "artistic" in the revolutionary 60's when they pushed the envelop in their youth. The music is just more intensely unique and meaningful to many and has so much more substance than the music industry that coopted all that took over and dumbed down the music and took out its bite..

'Never could stand that screaching patti LaBelle.

There has not been a half time show worth two tinker's damns since they started catering to the MTV crowd. Until they decide to change that and bring back grown up entertainers, there won't be.
03:47 PM on 02/05/2012
They stopped catering to the MTV crowd after the Janet Jackson incident. Since then it's been Paul McCartney, Prince, The Rolling Stones, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, and the Black Eyed Peas. With the exception of BEP, all the performers since then have been people who were past their primes. I will give the Stones and Springsteen credit though as they were good.

Springsteen is far, far, far FROM being past his prime. The guy is a prolific writer and singer. There is a reason he is still The Boss, and it isn't because he knows how to collect a paycheck, the guy really doesn't care about money, it is because he wants whatever he does to be great. Springsteen could put out 20 albums from all the songs he and his band recorded but have never released. You might want to rethink who you are lumping in as being past their prime, you have obviously never been to a Springsteen show. You get your money's worth there. 4 hour shows? normal.

I'm a big fan of the Who, Springsteen, McCartney, The Stones, and Petty, but I gotta say that even though I'm not a huge Prince fan, he was the best halftime show I've seen in years! He rocked the house, and in the rain, no less. (Black-eyed Peas stunk up the house.)
