Newt Gingrich Calls Subway Riders Elitist

Newt Gingrich has found some success blasting conservatives' favorite targets -- the media, Obama, health care, NOT living on the moon -- and now he's turned his desperate ire at the elitists of Manhattan. You know, the ones who ride the subway.

After Donald Trump's surprise endorsement of Mitt Romney, Gingrich, speaking to a crowd of supporters in Las Vegas, leaned on his old anti-elitist crutch and condemned New Yorkers for, um....

For being New Yorkers, apparently.

In January, attacking those living in urban centers as being out of touch with real home owners, Newt he said this to a crowd in Ohio:

"Those who, you know, live in high-rise apartment buildings writing for fancy newspapers in the middle of town after they ride the metro, who don't understand that for most Americans the ability to buy a home, to have their own property, to have a sense of belonging is one of the greatest achievements of their life, and it makes them feel like they are good solid citizens."

Of course, Gingrich thinks everything's elitist. Judges, for example. Or the media. Even Disney World.

Perhaps it's just he's never seen this. Or this. Or this.

Also: just because we run yoga classes and perform Shakespeare on the subway doesn't mean that...um....

Wait a minute - did anybody else catch this?
He said " ...they ride the metro" ....The Metro?
In New York City they do not call it the "Metro" .... wonder where he picked up that term ... Oh -
"Metro, the name of hundreds of rapid transit networks around the world named after the Paris Métro." Gingrich really is the enormously pretentious elitist! - He probably refers to all subways as "the Metro" because he just loves Paris! and he thinks saying it make him sound so chic!

I guess those who ride the subway are elitists because the subway is in a blue state.And we all know blue states are full of elitists and people who believe in such nonsense as evolution,planned parenthood,a safety net for people(social security,etc.).Or maybe Newt tweeted that because he is just nuts.

Well, if that comment doesn't prove Newt's "Beltway Insider"'s street cred, I don't know what does, because the "Metro" he's referring to is in DC, not NYC, which has a subway, nor the T in Boston, nor the El in Chicago. I understand, it was just a slip, because the only public transit system he's familiar with is the DC one, you know, from the years he spent in office, then lobbying in DC.

It's "metro" in DC - which is the only place Newt knows despite his continuing self-delusion that he's not an 'inside-the-beltway' bandit. There's a Tiffany's in DC, too. I believe that's where the revolving $500K jewelry account is.

Actually, Tiffany's in DC is 200 yards north of the DC line in Chevy Chase, MD.
Next door to Brooks Brothers. It's been there for years.
A new Tiffany's was opened a few years ago in Tysons Corner, VA, just a stone's throw from Newt's home in McLean, VA...I bet he and (especially) Callista are pleased...fyi...
