Audi Vampire Super Bowl Commercial: LED Headlights Ruin Vampire Party In Ad

First Posted: 02/ 5/2012 7:47 pm Updated: 02/ 6/2012 12:50 pm

Audi Vampire Super Bowl Ad
Audi's "Vampire Party" ad aired during Super Bowl XLVI.

Audi certainly doesn't seem to be directing its Super Bowl marketing at fans of the Twilight series. In fact, this latest ad seems targeted more at Vampire hunters than Twi-hards as it depicts the demise of a large contingent of attractive young blood suckers who are accidentally incinerated by the LED headlights of an Audi S7.

With "The Killing Moon" by Echo & the Bunnymen providing the soundtrack, this Audi ad promises "Daylight, now in headlight," and concludes with the hashtag #SoLongVampires.

For years, viewers have tuned into the NFL's Super Bowl as much to see what the advertisers roll out as how the two teams vying for the sport's top prize perform. This year is no different. Each time that NBC cuts away from Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots a hush will come over most Super Bowl parties as everyone -- and not just the diehard sports fans with a rooting (or betting) interest -- focuses entirely on the ads.

While iconic Super Bowl commercials like Apple's '1984' and Coke's ad starring Mean Joe Greene will be remembered so many more are soon forgotten or, even worse, ridiculed as super fails.

How does this Super Bowl ad stack up?

Forget the cinematic value. There selling point for a $45K car is the headlights?

"Their" selling point for decades has been the fact that they are innovators of auto technology. Pretty much every modern automobile feature debuted on an Audi or a Benz.

(Full disclosure: I'm an audi fan, owned 6 of them 3 currently)

They are innovators. The Audi 5000 was way ahead of Toyota in the uncontrolled acceleration department.

The song "The Killing Moon" is by Echo & the Bunnymen.

No kidding. I should be kicked out of the tribe, banished from the island, and raked over a billion hot coals. I only saw them a gajillion times. I attribute it to my very early, much needed coffee post.

Q. What do Audis and Vampires have in common. A. They both suck.
03:16 AM on 02/06/2012
You know what really sucks? Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Any BMW bike is 10x better.

Yeah, you're a real American Patriot, Chink lover. That's the kind of comment I would expect from a person with your moniker. By the way, BMW is made in Germany. Support the country you live in. BE AMERICAN BUY AMERICAN. Or move to China, a Communist country.

Well, at least Audi didn't use violence against men in their spot, with woman using violence against men, not men against men. A beautiful Italian woman slaps a nerdy guy in the Fiat ad and a wife head butts her husband in the Oikos yogurt ad. Why didn't we see a woman get slapped or head butted? Stupid question.

Too all the naysayers - well, to each, their own. For anyone with an inkling of vampire anything, this commercial was priceless. With vampires being very mainstream these days - very much like cowboys were in the 50s, I think it was very well 'executed.'

I hate partyliners and their antics.

Dont the Vampires in question, that they might be copying, survive in sunlight? So I say poorly executed
07:47 AM on 02/06/2012
Since there are so many vamp mythos, can they really be wrong? I guess it just depends on what vampy storyline your into. Buffy - puffs of vampy dust in sunlight, Twi - shiny, glittery vamps, Being Human - now you have a problem - vamps okey dokey in daylight. :)

I loved it and since my car's head lights are HORRIBLE, I'm seriously considering the Audi when my lease is up in less then a year. Safety trumps the ridiculous stuff they try to sell you today like the computerized touch screens that never work right.

I apparently missed out on the point of this commercial. Audi was promoting its headlights? Is that the gist of the ad? And the purpose of the vampires was what? I must be getting old.

The tagline was "Daylight brought to you by Audi," or something along those lines.

I had already seen this ad numerous times before it aired during the Super Bowl, most notably during ESPN's Basketball (NBA and College) this past week. This will be one of the more memorable.

I love this commercial. I saw it a few days ago and it makes me laugh each time. BRILLIANT.

Unless you are into the "vampire movies" this is probably the worst comercial EVER!
08:42 PM on 02/05/2012
I agree, as soon as I saw fangs, I turned it. What's with all these weirdo's
10:45 PM on 02/05/2012
you dont have to be into vampire movies to get the commercial. I bet if it was dracula you probably would have been able to understand it
