STOCKHOLM -- A group linked to the hacker network Anonymous says it has attacked the Swedish government's website and shut it down by overloading it.

CyberForce used Twitter to claim responsibility for Saturday's attack on the website, which all departments of Sweden's government use.

Government spokesman Jacob Lagercranser confirmed the website had "experienced some problems," but he declined to give further details, saying the government never comments on security issues.

CyberForce describes itself as part of the hacking collective Anonymous, which drew international attention by hacking onto a private conference call by the FBI and Britain's Scotland Yard, then publishing the roughly 15-minute-long recording of the call on the Internet on Friday.

Where is the rationale for attacking the Swedish government. Is it their compliance in lynching the martyr of the digital age Julian Assange? HP should be more careful with running half sided pieces.

The Swedish gov't is currently discussing passing ACTA.

We are at the crossroads of civil freedoms. The hippy dippy rhetoric the social networks is starting to fade, in its wake are their ugly true face.... Forget twitter and lets work on an alternative to Google.

The guilty never do stand trial......Cheney, Rumsfield and Bush should be behind bars. That's why groups like Anonymous exist. The good guys aren't good anymore.

whose worse the novices who committed this act or those caught with their pants around their ankles?
01:26 PM on 02/05/2012
The problem I have with the attack is that they are deciding who should stand trial for suspected crimes. And that is what wrong with the world now. Only certain people are held responsible for their actions.

"Only certain people are held responsible for their actions. "

How is this any different that when a court room decides guilt or innocence? There too -- "only certain people are held responsible for their actions. "

Why did CyberForce attack the Swedish government website? Where is the other half of the story?
01:56 PM on 02/05/2012
I would guess it has to do with the extradition of that Wikileaks guy. He is being extradited from Briton to Sweden so they can bring him to the US and charge him as a terrorist. They got a couple of girls in Sweden who are crying rape after finding out he was sleeping with both of them.

That's a very succinct explanation. Kudos.

One would think that this would be an integral part of the story... why some support and others oppose ACTA enough to attack government websites.

Oddly, this article doesn't include the rationale for attacking the Swedish gov't site. Most Anonymous actions always include that info. Why isn't included here?

My guess is due to the pending decision on the extradition of Julian Assange. A good reporter or editor would try to include that info in an article in a news site.
