Chevy Apocalypse Super Bowl Commercial: Silverado Ad Mocks Ford (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/ 5/2012 8:43 pm Updated: 02/ 6/2012 12:30 pm

Most companies' advertising during the Super Bowl are worried about outlasting their competition. Chevy doesn't want to stop there. This post-apocalyptic ad not only contends that the Chevy Silverado will last longer than a Ford truck, but portrays a dystopian future in which the only survivors will be dusty dudes who own Chevy trucks.

Awful Announcing
So Chevy trucks are the answer to the Mayan apocalypse! Winner.

Those of you who drive something else? You won't be missing much. It looks like the only thing to eat are Twinkies.

CLICK HERE to see the rest of the 2012 Super Bowl commercials as well as all of the best, worst and most memorable from years past.

For years, viewers have tuned into the NFL's Super Bowl as much to see what the advertisers roll out as how the two teams vying for the sport's top prize perform. This year is no different. Each time that NBC cuts away from Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots a hush will come over most Super Bowl parties as everyone -- and not just the diehard sports fans with a rooting (or betting) interest -- focuses entirely on the ads.

While iconic Super Bowl commercials like Apple's '1984' and Coke's ad starring Mean Joe Greene will be remembered so many more are soon forgotten or, even worse, ridiculed as super fails.

How does this Super Bowl ad stack up?

Thank you Chevy for spending my hard earned given to you tax dollars on a commercial to sell the biggest piece of crap on the road today. Hell, we might as well all drive up to the Chevy dealer and pick one to drive for the week. We do pretty much own a share, right?

Chevy couldn't even survive the last few years without a government bailout (unlike Ford). How would they get through then end of the world?

2012 was not just a significant date for the Mayans. This year has been referenced multiple times in other cultures and belief systems around the world and throughout history. Over at www.december-21-2012.com they explain how this year is significant for so many others.

Whats worse helping American companies in trouble out or helping out Oil companies that have been gouging us for decades??? These companies got loans that will be paid back I don't think Oil companies ever pay back. By the way chances are your breakfast was subsidized by the US government as well. Just ask a farmer. get over it and eat your Honda.

The irony is that Chevy was bailed out by the taxpayers and wouldn't have survived without it, while Ford soldiered on through all on their own. And while we're at it, someone tell Clint Eastwood that Chrysler was also bailed out (for the 2nd time in 3 decades). Revisionist history is alive and well on Madison Avenue.

If you REALLY think that any one of "the big three" are any better than any of the others in terms of quality, parts, patriotic pride or moral high ground, I have to apologize and say I think you are delusional........

A major comedic opportunity was missed by GM's ad agency in this spot. The Chevy truck owners could have emerged from the Mayan apocalypse and still have taken a swipe at Ford, but the lone surviving pedestrian should have walked up to them and passed out the Twinkies.

Keith Richards.

The ad would have become a lasting legend and Keith would have loved the joke. Sad that no one thought of it.

ken wilson here. Reality strikes.Gm nailed it.Thares no other truck that would stand up to a Gm truck. Gm trucks have more payload, towing and economy.

It's an advertisement. It is meant to sell trucks and nothing more than that.
