As the media, and presumably a few prudes, get all a-twitter about M.I.A.'s flipped middle finger during the Super Bowl halftime show, it's easy to forget why she was up there in the first place.

Yes, she was an invited guest, but Madonna is no, well, madonna. Madge has repeatedly tried to maintain late-career relevancy by co-opting cool, and the guests she assembled on the Super Bowl stage were simply the pop succubus' latest victims.

Wait... hold up... don't most Super Bowl half-time shows include multiple performers? Last year it was the Black Eyed Peas, Usher, and... Slash.

I get the point in terms of the song they worked on together but in relation to the half-time show I think you omitted an important factoid, succubus.
