NYPD: 5 People Murdered In 25 Hours During Violent New York City Weekend

5 People Murdered With 25 Hours This Weekend

Within a 25 hour timespan this weekend, five people were murdered in New York City.

The violence began early Saturday morning when Elijah Green, 23, was discovered shot to the head in a 14th floor stairwell of the McKinley Houses in the Bronx.

Three of the other victims met their ends in Queens. The New York Post reports at 5:45 PM Saturday when "career criminal" George Portillo, 31, got into a fight with an unknown gunman and was shot in the chest. He died at Elmhurst Hospital.

Then, around 1AM Sunday morning, 20-year-old Cody Kahn was shot and killed in South Jamaica. It's still not known who shot him or why.

Later that morning, according to The Post, two men were found shot near Hollis. A 28-year-old man was discovered slumped over the steering wheel of his car while a 31-year-old man was found nearby on a sidewalk. The 28-year-old died of his injuries.

And at 9PM Saturday in Brooklyn, Sean Edwards, 40, was found dead with a gun shot wound to the face in the living room of his Bushwick home.

The rash of murders calls to mind the deadly three-day weekend in August, when 67 people were shot in the city, and 13 died. In one 24 hour timespan that weekend, 25 people were shot.

DNAinfo reports that as of January 22, 20 people had been murdered in the 5 boroughs, the same amount as 2011 during the same time period.
