Bud Light 'Here Weego' Super Bowl Commercial: Ad Features Rescued Dog (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/ 6/2012 11:21 am Updated: 02/ 6/2012 11:48 am

While it's easy to lament the lack of creativity in Super Bowl commercials these days, it's also hard to deny that there are certain proven formulas for getting our attention.

Animals + Humor = Success

Bud Light added a few extra variables to this equation to increase this ad's chances of success -- beer and a rescued dog. In "Here Weego," we're introduced to a tiny rescue who can be a big help at your next party. Named Weego, this little fellow will fetch beer, but seemingly just Bud Light, if you call out "Here Weego!"

And, in case you hadn't already picked it up, you're also uttering Bud Light's "Here We Go" slogan whenever you call for this dog to grab you a beer.

For anyone interested in rescuing a dog of their own please visit Petfinder.com and the ASPCA. But please keep in mind that most dogs will not be rolling kegs into your next gathering.

For years, viewers have tuned into the NFL's Super Bowl as much to see what the advertisers roll out as how the two teams vying for the sport's top prize perform. This year was no different. Each time that NBC cut away from Super Bowl XLVI between the New York Giants and New England Patriots a hush came over most Super Bowl parties as everyone -- and not just the diehard sports fans with a rooting (or betting) interest -- focused entirely on the ads.

While iconic Super Bowl commercials like Apple's '1984' and Coke's ad starring Mean Joe Greene will be remembered so many more are soon forgotten or, even worse, ridiculed as super fails.

How does this Super Bowl ad stack up?

Both of the dogs in my household are rescues, and they're two of the sweetest dogs you'll ever meet. Not to mention, they're best friends.

There are so many dogs like him in shelters and animal control facilities. Just look on www.petfinder.com or www.adoptapet.com. Thousand and thousands of dogs and cats up for adoption. Rescue dogs make the best dogs to train in addition their looks are unique and so cute.

i loved this commercial!!, it is funny but i was never a big animal lover when i was a kid, but first my sister and i got a chiguagua, and somehow i ended up with her chiguagua sister (she was abandoned, and our mom called crying to please take her, since she has lots of pets and could not take her, and the poor dog was thrown out), and later a neighboor moved out and left his cat, so i took him (this cat is now my child, i love him to death) and six months ago i am walking on the road and this kitty was going to get killed by a car, so now she is with me too, and she is adorable, they all ge talong together great and sleep on top of each other like family, i consider myself so lucky to have them. i have no kids and plenty of space in my home.

I have a rescue dog that is almost identical to "Weego"....just in the blonde version. However, she doesn't fetch me beer....she just craps on my carpet when she feels like it. Good thing she's cute!

"We-Go" was excellent....loved it...especially since it was mentioned that he was a rescue dog. I also loved the name WeGo.....cute, especially a little doggie....cool.

I loved this commercial. It was my favorite!! Especially the message it was sending. I do not know why they don't have it in the list of favorite ads to vote for! I thought it was the best!!

I don't love Bud Light, but I loved this commercial. My other favorite was the dog getting in shape to race the Volkswagen. But that one got less positive buzz than the Skechers commercial with racing greyhounds (boo!): http://www.ilovedogs.com/2012/02/dogs-score-big-in-super-bowl-commercials/

Our family LOVED this commercial. It was light, cute, humorous and to the point. We know the joy rescue dogs bring in our lives. they truly have an understanding that you gave them a second shot at life...and love you that much more for it. So I appreciate a commercial with heart and humor and this one had that. Also loved the Volkswagon commercial of the fat dog on a diet and the M&Ms commercial

I liked the commercial especially the resued dog part but towards the end, I wanted to say "get your own darned beer and let the dog take a break". LOL
