What To Watch: TV Picks For Feb. 6 - 12

Smash - Monday February 6, 10 p.m. ET/PT, CTV/NBC

Capitalizing on the resurgent popularity of all things Marilyn, this "Glee"-for-grown-ups is set in the world of Broadway, where two seasoned producers (Debra Messing, Christian Borle) are mounting a show based on the life of Norma Jean. The suspense in the endless previews for the show is generated by a casting dilemma -- amateur Katharine McPhee or pro Megan Hilty as the blonde one? I am curious how long the writers think they can spin out this decision without straining credulity.

The River - Tuesday February 7, 9 p.m. ET/PT, CTV/ABC

Clearly inspired to some degree by the real-life death of Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin, this paranormal story is related through a doc-within-a-show, being shot by the slimy ex-producer of the missing-presumed-dead adventurer. His wife and son belive he's alive, and are willing to face untold horrors and tantalizing mysteries to track him down. May I suggest checking a certain island in Hawaii?

Canada AM - Wednesday February 8, 6 a.m. ET, CTV

The Canada AM team focuses on mental health today, particularly the challenges facing youth and teens. With a live 'town hall' set-up, people can email and tweet at experts from Kids Help Phone and Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, and other experts will be discussing recognizing symptoms and how to get treatment.

54th Annual Grammy Awards - Sunday February 12, 8 p.m. ET/PT, Global/CBS

LL Cool J hosts as Adele, Coldplay, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, Paul McCartney, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry and Bruce Springsteen perform. Bon Iver's Justin Vernon is nominated in a boatload of categories, though oddly, not once for his astonishing work as producer and guest artist on Kanye West's 'My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.' Kanye's up for plenty too, so if you're hoping for some ego-driven drama, chances are pretty good West will get to the stage.
