Woody Harrelson Enrages Reddit Users With Movie Marketing Attempt

Woody Harrelson participated in one of Reddit's "Ask Me Anything" (AMA) threads Friday, but perhaps someone should have told him it wasn't called "Ask Me Anything, as long as it's about my new movie." The 50-year-old actor's answers infuriated the website's users as he attempted to promote his new film, "Rampart."

AMA threads are a space where users can ask participants anything about their life or occupation. Popular subjects in the past have included a New York City subway conductor, an unnamed former child actor and a man who claimed to have slept with more than 100 prostitutes worldwide.

The site's users were not pleased with Harrelson's attempt to answer only questions about the movie, and the chat quickly deteriorated when the actor was asked if he remembered allegedly taking a high school girl's virginity.

Of course, Harrelson was not pleased with the question. "First of off, its not true, and second off, I don't want to answer questions about that. Lets focus on the film people," he replied.

Participants were not impressed. After Harrelson abandoned the discussion, users continued to post, calling it "the worst AMA of all time" and an "epic fail by Woody Harrelson's PR machine."

Celebrities are regularly requested by AMA users eager to learn about their lives.

In December 2011, comedian Louis C.K. had a very successful AMA that produced more than 6,000 comments in the first hour, while former "Scrubs" star Zach Braff answered questions in September.

We'll undoubtedly see more celebrities and studios using Reddit as a promotional tool, but they would be wise to learn from the response elicited by Harrelson, and be more candid with their fans.

Thats kind of funny, because years ago he was an early adopter of technology.

I guess somewhere he stopped being ahead of the curve.

for some reason...i just thought he was being a brat. and in his mind, a cute funny brat...with the right people 'getting it' of course. for some reason, because i certainly don't have a clue about this man...i have nick-named him in my head as "opposite guy". thought i'd try it myself...as i have absolutely no idea of what is going on in this story. zilch. but i'm commenting anyway. just to be annoying and to not follow any correct procedure or norm.

See there's a subtle way to social media and marketing people don't get it. It's not a marketing venue and that is why twitter is ruined and facebook and so its good to see the reddit people run him off. LOLOLOLOL

I blame Woody for answering questions at a childs website. Have you seen most of the posts on Reddit? Why would Woody think he would get mature questions???

Aren’t you the elitist as you make a comment under the entertainment section of huffpo. Didn’t realize it is so acceptable to mock them so openly. Isn’t that what conservatives do to huffpo?

Did you mean to reply to my other post where I made a HP remark, or this one? If this one, I ask again. Have you seen some of the postings on Reddit?

About 10-15 yrs ago, Woody Harrelson climbed up on some part of the Bay Bridge (used to get from Oakland to San Fran) to protest something re: hemp. (Can't remember details).

Anyway, for over an hour---until police came & arrested him---all traffic going into SF was stopped, and we all sat there waiting (at time not knowing reason, but on news that night).

I can only imagine how many people were late for work, late opening their businesses, late making deliveries, etc., etc. (I lived in Sacramento & was going to a business meeting in SF).

So, since then, I can't stand to watch any film, tv show, whatever w/Harrelson in it.

Self-centered, self-absorbed jerk who didn't give a damn about all the working people harmed by his stupid act.

Isn't it terrible how you were inconvenienced by some one trying to do a good thing.

In the future, we will schedule any advancement of the world around your schedule.

No one ever said democracy wasn't messy.

You disagree with me. Fine. I have no problem with that.

But, I really don't see why you are so sarcastic about it.

Why not just write why you think protests re: hemp are valuable for some reason, or something like that?

Why the viciousness? (Rhetorical question).

Oh the American dream
Think what you want
Believe what you want

As long as it doesnt inconvienence you right?
The protest was to save the redwood trees, not hemp I think a fight we should all be into. and If you were there you should know that it was th CHP that stopped traffic, not the protesters.

All hail the mighty dollar tho right? Screw the trees.
its actually knida funny cuz the sign they unfurled said basically the equivilant of that.

AMA = Ask Me Anything. Not Ask Me Anything about my latest movie. I like Woody and his AMA doesn't change that. Maybe as a critical thinker I choose to research what Reddit is and then post something not 'What is a Riddit". Please stay away from 4chan

He's actually not a narc at all. I met him at a bar I used to frequent when he was shooting a movie there. He waltzed right over to me and the bouncer and talked to me like he knew me for years...even wanted to hang out when he finished shooting. So much a for a narc.

It's an Internet news and information source used by a fairly high number of young people today. If you want to understand where modern youth incoming from, explore Reddit.

LOL! So, you're saying this mystical, marvellous "Riddit" serves as a diving rod for deciphering the noxious noodlings of today's youth, huh? Gosh, this thing must be BIG. And all I thought they were good for is mindlessly staring into the tiny windows of their Droids. Sorry, Eileenla, but I think all us "old codgers" already know all we need to know about the thought processes of "modern youth" without engaging "Riddit".
