www.keysnet.com:

Key West is second only to Las Vegas in trashiness -- apparently the good kind -- for Spring Break, according to the website Coed Magazine.

It just listed its America's Top 10 Trashiest Spring Break Destinations, using as criteria the presence of one or more Hooters restaurants (there is no Hooters in Key West); how many strip clubs, tattoo parlors and liquor stores there are; whether the city hosts an annual motorcycle week; and whether film crews from "Girls Gone Wild" produce footage there.

I recall growing up in Fort Lauderdale during the hayday of Spring Break being the greatest thing ever. Wet t-shirt contests at the Button South, belly flop competitions at the Candy Store, Dinking at the Elbow Room and Penrods, and of course the women and no one seeing the need to check IDs. I was sad when by '89 the city put the old kaibosh on Spring Break. Now that I am older, I am not so sad as Ft. Lauderdale Beach is 100x times nicer now.

As a 42 year old man I hope these events continue. If you cannot let loose as a youth you may never get the opportunity again. Sure there will be those who cause themselves problems they will have to deal with for the rest of their lives, but oh well. For most young folks they will look back on these time with either fondness or regret. Either can add to a well rounded life.
