We love our University of Oregon (pronounced Orygun) Ducks. Eugene is a great college town..

As a graduate of Auburn University, I will never forget my days attending school on the plains. I always felt safe and thankful to attend a school with so many rich traditions and high expectations! War Eagle!

Everyone who has attended Auburn will agree with its high ranking. There is a spirit there unlike any other. The University, the city of Auburn, the students and the athletic program all work together to make a college experience there memorable. When Auburn alumni exchange their famous battle cry "War Eagle" it is not an "in your face, we're better than you" type utterance. It is a greeting that means " I know you, we shared a common experience at a very special place and like you I believe in Auburn and love it." And don't sell Auburn's academic standards short. Auburn ranked 9th in the nation and first in the SEC in the number of Merit Scholarship Winning students attending public universities. Auburn's engineering, veterinary and pharmacy schools are highly ranked and their fisheries program may be the best in the country. Auburn, a proud university with a grand tradition. War Eagle!

I am so glad to see Macalester College made Princeton's Review List of the 10 Colleges with The Best Quality Of Life. Macalester is well deserving of this recognition. When I lived in the Twin Cities, my choir rehearsed at Macalester College. Our choir performed at the 2009 Reunion. The campus is beautiful and it is in a very nice neighborhood.

Not only did Auburn make the list for quality of life, they also made the top ten schools for slackers. Go figure.

If you're a slacker, Auburn rules!! They serve ciche' to those skipping class and watching soap operas in the dorm.

Why are people who are unfamiliar with the variables which encompass quality of life posting on the College BB? Shouldn't they be scanning groceries somewhere?

Here's a clue folks: If the kids are stressing their way to grey hair because the Electrical Engineering T.A.'s teaching the courses barely speak English and make it a point to grade down the students who ask for clarification - the quality of life is bad. Similarly in the case of college students whose professors have the audacity to have puerile arguments with Nobel laureates during a presentation.

College is NOT a country club. Kids mature by crisis.

So the ideal solution is to drop them off in the middle of Cambodia with a pocket knife, some flint, and 3 servings of penicillin?

You have much to learn about the human mind, stress, leisure time, and intellectual maturity. The sort you advocate, sadly, fails to pass the bar because by definition crisis based upbringings tend to yield more criminal adults than anything else. If you doubt the verity of that statement take a trip to Compton and walk down the street.

3 doses of penicillin? That's a little soft of you.

A few comments about what makes the quality of life, at these schools, so good would be interesting.

One has to wonder if they ever visited Auburn, AL...a forsaken town, old (70s) campus and a school full of backwoods AL kids. Truth.

Spoken by someone who has never been there.

Oh, I've been there and Opelika is the center of the know universe.

Auburn University is simply a WONDERFUL place. People often think of it as the ultra-rival to Alabama in football, but it's so much more than that. It is an excellent school academically, affordable, comfortable and fun, in a great little college town. Just a wonderful place to be. No wonder people say "War Eagle" and talk about the "Auburn Family."

Home school...There are no jobs anyhow. Unless one desires the education of de-education.

The question is....which one will you send your child to for indoctrination?

seems that such a nice quality of life would be more evident to visitors of that town. Was not to me

seems a school with such a great quality of life would attract better athletes.

Interesting fluff piece but these ARE nice campuses. I have visited several of them. There are many more with similar quality all over the country though. An interesting note on Auburn - it also recently made ranks in a magazine survey of best places to retire - a good mix of demographics in a small town with lots of academic dynamics and good climate.

Roll Tide!!!

Why is this response always necessary from UA-T fans? Can't possibly just celebrate with Auburn for making this list. But what can one expect from folks who claim more national championships in football than they have actually won. Auburn has 5 recognized by the NCAA but claims only the 2 that everyone recognizes, unlike UA-T, which has actually won 11 recognized championships but claim 15 or so and parade flags announcing them. War Eagle is a greeting; Roll Tide is an in-your-face statement announcing "I am better than everyone else."
