Bicyclist Fatally Struck By Tri-Rail At Cypress Creek Station

A bicyclist was fatally struck by a Tri-Rail train at the Cypress Creek station Thursday morning, according to Fort Lauderdale Police.

Investigators say the bicyclist crossed the tracks westbound around 7 a.m., just after a northbound train crossed through the intersection at NW 62nd Street.

While the bicyclist was on the tracks, a southbound train entered the same intersection and struck him.

Police say that the traffic control arms for the railway were in the down position so that no vehicles could cross the track when the incident occurred.

The bicyclist was transported to North Broward Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 9:30 a.m.

Investigators have not been able to identify the bicyclist. They say he is a white male, likely in his late 50s, and around 6 feet tall.

Last December, a man was struck and killed by a Tri-Rail train between Sunrise Boulevard and NW 6th Street.

A month earlier, a Tri-Rail train hit a car in Oakland Park, injuring 10 passengers.
