Oprah Moves Oscar Special To OWN

Oprah announced on Thursday that she will be moving her Oscar special to her television network, OWN. The special, which will air over a week before the Academy Awards ceremony, is expected to become a yearly franchise for the cable network.

Oprah's special will differ from her notable "After-Oscar Party," which she did yearly live from the Kodak Theatre on the Monday after the Academy Awards ceremony. Her Oscar specials were some of "The Oprah Winfrey Show's" highest-rated programs. Oprah sat down with the night's biggest winners, including the recipients of the Best Actor and Best Actress awards.

On OWN, Winfrey will interview nominees prior to the ceremony, including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer from The Help. Moneyball's Jonah Hill will also appear in the special, which will air February 15. Hill tweeted his excitement about the interview on Tuesday (when the interview was presumably taped).

Last week, ABC announced that "Live! With Kelly" will host an after-Oscars show the Monday following the Academy Awards ceremony live from the Kodak Theatre.

Since Oprah ceased production of her syndicated show, where else was Oprah going to “move" her Oscar special to other than on her own network? Oxygen?

It will be interesting to see the rating that Kelly gets in syndication for her “after Oscar” show vs. the number that Oprah turns in on cable.

While a big Oprah fan - doing a pre-show is exactly like Barbara Walters old specials. She should have kept the rights to the post show. OWN keeps struggling - not sure this will help.

Oprah should do a post-Oscar show with celebrity interviews with some of the Academy Award winners in the same vein as Barbara Walters' Special. Oprah, that's free advice I normally charge $300 per hour... Lol

Oprah Winfrey has helped more people out of homelessness and into a home as well education than you can count. Imagine doing a tenth of altruist work Ms. Winfrey has and perhaps your perspective and propensity for appearing intellectually challenged with nothing to offer, might change.

Ms. Winfrey philanthropy has helped countless people and organizations. If anyone deserves a private space for her relaxation, it is Ms. Winfrey... and that is none of your evil business.

Now imagine doing that same work WITHOUT a full fledged camera crew and production crew lingering around every turn just to get it on film. Doing great things with no one watching is the gauge of how good a human is. When you weigh your good deeds against how much return on investment you'll get from those deeds, like oprah, you are simply making a calculated tax deduction.

Would love to look forward to seeing this in HD! but alas, OWN has not contracted with Direct TV satellite yet. I have been waiting since the start of it. Watching without HD is like watching underwater, all blurry and flat. I have called the moderators but they said its about my satellites contract. Still waiting . . . .

I like that she pushes herself and forges forward. She never claims to be perfect and she recognizes where she can challenge herself and goes for it. It is very reassuring. All the time.
