Baby's Ashes Stolen: Australian Police Seek Three In Case Of Missing Child's Urn

Thieves Steal Urn With Baby's Cremated Ashes, Parents 'Devastated'

A horrified family is pleading with thieves to return the ashes of their 4-month-old daughter.

The family entered their home in Melbourne, Australia on Feb. 6 to find their house ransacked, according to the Herald Sun.

Among the items stolen were credit cards, a computer and cash. But what the family wants back most is an urn filled with their daughter's remains, which police think may have accidentally been stolen.

"They're devastated," Det. Const. Marina Wientjens told News 9 in a video. "I think it was taken by mistake, I'm hoping they didn't take it out of malice, because you just don't do that sort of thing ... It's all they have left of their young child."

The surveillance footage shows at least two of the alleged perps using stolen credit cards at shops in nearby Prahran. The female suspect is described as a Pacific Islander, age 30-40, and the two male suspects are in their 30s, AAP reported.

Cops told News 9 that they'd be willing to let the thieves stay anonymous -- and out of jail -- if they returned the family's precious piece.
