'We Take Care Of Our Own': Bruce Springsteen's New Video

First Posted: 02/10/2012 12:27 pm Updated: 02/10/2012 12:27 pm

Bruce Springsteen

Sing it, Bruce!

Bruce Springsteen and his E Street band have released the video for "We Take Care Of Our Own," off their upcoming album "Wrecking Ball."

Shot in both black and white and color, Springsteen takes one for the working class with a factory rock-out session and begs the questions, "Where's the works that has set my hands, my soul free? Where's the spirit that will reign, reign over me? Where's the promise from sea to shining sea?"

Springsteen recently announced that he had hired late band member Clarence Clemons' nephew, Jake Clemons, to join the band on saxophone.

"Wrecking Ball," which draws inspiration from the Occupy movement, hits stores on March 6th.

Have to give Springsteen credit: at least he's stepping up, and coming out in support. Most other bands seem scared to death.

Here's another new protest track, this one a cover of the fist-shaking 60s protest / garage rock anthem “NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME”: http://tinyurl.com/7p93vvm

The lyrics are all too relevant:

“There’s a new sun rising up angry in the sky.
There’s a new voice crying but not afraid to die.
Let the old world make believe it’s blind and deaf and dumb
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME.

There are changes lying ahead on every road.
There are new thoughts ready and waiting to explode.
When tomorrow is today, the bells will toll for some.
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME.

The future’s coming on sweet and strong,
And no-one’s gonna hold it back for long…

There are new dreams crowding out old realities.
There’s revolution sweeping in like a fresh new breeze.
Let the old world make believe it’s blind and deaf and dumb,
BUT NOTHING CAN CHANGE THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME. “

(BTW, the whole album is pretty decent, if you are into that vintage 60s garage rock thing. It's a free download http://tinyurl.com/7od26by)

What a bunch of hooey. I don't know what he's been smokin' but take a good look around for the last decade or so....we're not taking care of our own.

Simplistic, jingoistic, chest thumpin' somewhat catchy tune.

I do like him and his talent but this is not his best work...or even near.

I agree that musically it's nothing special, but I think his lyrics are more an admonishment than a statement of fact. As in, "shouldn't we be taking care of our own? Cuz we sure as hell ain't."

I did wonder about that but maybe the concept was just too oblique for me.

I think he is saying that we should be, and we are not. Listen again.

I'm not crazy about the tune, but I am the message. Rock on Bruce.

Although I couldn't stand watching the entire Grammy Awards, I did catch Bruce doing this song.
Couldn't understand any of the lyrics. Very poor performance.

The same thing I was thinking, but they just might not get it and use it for a stump song, like Regan used Born in the USA....After I watched the video all I could think about is what they did to the Dixie Chicks....but they had the last laugh with The Grammy win

That is true, but some of those 1% realize how screwed up things are.. Do you think any enlightenment thinker was dirt poor? Yet many of them advocated for things that would see them LESS well off than they would have been otherwise.

Another "shut up and sing" knuckle dragging conservative.

But you'd probably defend Rush Limbaugh and the hundreds of millions he makes propagating hate on AM radio three hours a day.

There are many things we can respectively disagree on but if you don't like Springsteen you're unAmerican.

It would be huge fail! The man has no talent! None! ....Yet, his denizen of are unaware of such because they are tone-deaf.

If only that Fender Esquire has been in the hands of someone with talent....

he's packed stadiums with tens of thousands... the man is an icon. and hey, if john ashcroft gets to sing, then i think springsteen should too at obama's next inauguration. maybe this time, john roberts can get it right.
09:46 PM on 02/10/2012
Most people will be fooled by the upbeat chorus and music, they won't even notice the fact that he's talking about all the hardships that people have been facing for years without any help (although at the end the video does seem to indicate the possibility for things to get better)

Ask the republicans who don't want to help the G I's coming home ...or the middle and lower economic strata of our society ...The president can only do so much ...

The republicans believe in the so called trickle down theory ...which is just another way to fool the working class ....ya blame Obama ...for all the wrongs done by privious presidents , including clinton who gave away the ranch to the chinese I was fighting in Laos ...
