Vinita Alley-Oop: High School Team Pulls Off Amazing Full-Court Buzzer Beater (VIDEO)

Alley Oop
This full court alley oop was unlike any dunk we've ever seen.

Oh, you know, this is just your run of the mill full-court bounce pass that results in a buzzer beating alley-oop dunk. Yup, sorry to bore you with yet another one of these plays.

Vinita High School out of Vinita, Okla. pulled off what very well may be one of the most unexpectedly thrilling plays we've seen on a basketball court -- even if it probably shouldn't have counted.

After Locust Grove High School made a free throw with little time remaining on the clock, Vinita inbounded the ball in an interesting fashion. The pass went full court and made one perfect bounce to a streaking player who appeared to dunk it just after the buzzer sounded.

The referees counted the basket, however, giving Vinita a 54-40 victory. Some may question the sportsmanship on Vinita's part of heaving a long pass while being up by more than 10 points with just seconds remaining, but you can't really argue with the results.

I've never gotten the "we're ahead, so we'll just waste the last few seconds" definition of sportsmanship...my dad taught me that until the game is over you play like it's a tie and the next two seconds count that much. I will shout at my screen commonly when I see players just idle because "it's over"; no it's not. Bravo to the amazing play here, much more rewarding for the players and audience to watch that then be treated to the smug listing that many games end with.

Nice pass BUT a simple inbound pass to end the game would have been the good sportsmanship thing to do. Of course that would not have made Huff Post now would it?

Generally what goes around comes around in sports and one day the shoe will be on the other foot when some teams runs up the score on this team.

It is the coaches responsibility to teach his team how to behave in victory and in defeat..in fact maybe that is the MOST important thing a coach can teach a bunch of high school kids. They will rarely end up playing college or NBA but all players will need to know how to deal with victory and defeat in life. Pass A. End of game coaching: F

good sportsmanship is not gloating, or not fighting. good sportsmanship is not letting the other team win. thats called giving up. you think that these kids should have given up. bad advice.

How is winning 52-40 instead of 54-40 giving up? The game was not on the line on this play.

Ever think that maybe, just maybe, the coach wanted the team to practice a last second play for the playoffs? High school is about never giving up and practice until the final seconds tick off the clock. It could be that this team uses this play down 59-58 down the road and pulls out a win because they were aboe to practice it in a real game. Nothing wrong with playing the entire game. The team that lost should look at this as how a team wins and use it for their coming games.

the clock shouldn't start until an inbound pass is actually touched by a player

Now they've unleashed the Monster, opposing teams will be watching for it. Not like there will be much they can do about it, from the looks of it.

It didn't win the game. It was just rubbing salt in a wound. F - for sportsmanship.

Really? This sound like more BS from the 'self-esteem' movement. I don't think it's bad sportsmanship to keep playing until the buzzer rings. Why would anyone think so?

The game was about to end and the lead was 12. Two more points made no difference. Or can't you see that the other team wasn't playing defense, which led to the cheap basket?

At first I thought it was to win the game, which was cool. Then I read they were already up big and had the game won. It really takes a lot from the play.
