World Debt Visualized: Nation's Debt In $100 Bills Stack Higher Than Famous Buildings [GRAPHIC]

Greece's huge amounts of sovereign debt put the Eurozone's economy in jeopardy and had consequences for the global economy.

But, Greece isn't alone in facing a debt crisis; nations around the world are struggling to cut their deficits. In the U.S. President Barack Obama is set to propose a Monday aimed at reducing the country's tremendous total debt that now stands at 47.9 trillion when personal debt, real estate (mortgage) debt, consumer debt, credit card debt and government debt is included.

But what exactly does such a sum of money actually look like? Thanks to economic infographic site Demonocracy.info and graphic artist Oto Godfrey, it turns out that if a nation's debt was represented in one-hundred dollar bills, the stacks of cash would pile up so high they'd tower over some of the world's most iconic structures. The stacks of France's standing debt alone almost climbs higher than the Eiffel Tower, while in Italy, the nation's debt dwarfs the Coliseum.

See below how the debt in other nations stacks up or click on any of the images below to go directly to Demonocracy.info:

@akrazyrunner: Wow! Go ahead and confiscate all the wealth of all the rich (defined as millionaires on up) and apply it to just the debt and you remove 3-4 trucks in front of the Capitol. The unholy trinity of Pelosi/Reid/Obama built the $7T debt wall depicted behind the Capitol. Everything in front is the accumulated debt of the previous 43 administrations. The back wall alone depicts the debt caused from the profligate spending by the Keynesian Kenyan-American and the Democrat Party in the last 3 years.

LOL! I suppose if you repeat it often enough people will start to drink your Kool-Aid.

You must be refering to repetitive refrain of "It's Bush's fault!" Or maybe you refer to "I inherited the worst economy in history!" Or are you refering to "I will close Gitmo!" Get used to Kool-Aid. It's the drink of choice for cults and ghettos. Both of which loom large in the future if this Administration continues.

Dems = "Tax & Spend" = Debt? What debt?
Gops = "Barrow & Spend" = Let's start another war!

They are mixing monetarily sovereign and non-sovereign countries.

For a monetarily sovereign country the "debt" is a measure of the net financial assets of the private sector.

For a monetarily non-sovereign country it is more like the debt of a household.

And to think that our pile is growing at about $3 billion PER DAY. Ugh...comforting.

Just remember that Congress appropriates but the Executive spends. The Executive ordinarily doesn't work for Congress. But everything about this administration is a historical first.

Yes debt is what you get when you lower taxes and then go to war. See how that works?

Without healthcare, freedom is just a theory

There is only one thing that will solve this problem for the US
Cut taxes on the wealthiest people who have benefited the most from the
current tax structure and have the most money while raising taxes on the poor
to ensure a permanent underclass and those at the very bottom will just die off
(BTW: This is Sa-rca-sm folks)

It's like presenting costs to executives. "Don't show the EVP numbers, show him pictures.." Graphic is an exercise in making it look "better" than it is. Maybe the image should be an emaciate child and how many of them can fit in a cargo container.
