Homeless Vets In Phoenix Get First Multifamily Housing Complex

Posted: 02/11/2012 12:18 pm

About 1,000 veterans don't have a place to sleep at night in Phoenix, but one development group is working to provide shelter to at least some of this population in need, KPHO reports.

The NRP group broke ground on Madison Pointe, the city's first multifamily project dedicated to veterans Thursday and will be within walking distance of several VA facilities.

The $12 million endeavor will set aside 10 units for veterans and is slated to be ready for residents next fall, according to a statement the company released.

"Most young soldiers or Marines are married and have a young family, and so we need to address the entire family to ensure that the family and the veterans don't fall victim to homelessness," Col. Joey Strickland of the Arizona Department of Veterans' Services, told KPHO.
