Jennifer Hudson To Honor Whitney Houston At 2012 Grammys The Day After Her Death

Jennifer Hudson

ALICIA QUARLES   02/12/12 01:42 AM ET  AP

LOS ANGELES — Jennifer Hudson will pay tribute to her idol, Whitney Houston, at Sunday's Grammy Awards.

Houston died Saturday at the Beverly Hills Hotel. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

Show Ken Ehrlich said that Hudson will be featured in a "musical tribute." He said it's too fresh to do more at this time, but they had to note the Grammy-winner's amazing accomplishments.

Prior to the news of Houston's death, Hudson attended a pre-Grammy event Saturday where she discussed the impact Houston had on her career.

Hudson talked about her love for Houston's hit "I Will Always Love You" and said that she would "create duets with her because I wanted to sing with Whitney Houston."

Houston actually presented Hudson with her first Grammy. Hudson said meeting her idol "almost overshadowed getting the Grammy."

For the sake of unity, peace and respect for the memory of Whitney Houston, it really doesn't matter who sings as long as Whitney's mother, family and friends are at peace with the decision.

May those who loved Whitney most.... be graced with the peace of God.

5 years ago a number of these artist wanted nothing to do with Houston. They criticized and mocked her drug abuse, and weight problem. Now that she has passed. They all act like they never left her side, as if they believed in her the whole time. This is M.J. all over again. When a star is at the lowest point of their career, they get tossed to the side. But as soon as there's media attention involved. Everybody comes out with a tribute.

This woman is essentially known for to things, one movie role, and from going from overweight to......less overweight.

Why does she keep appearing in media like she is an A-list celebrity?

...maybe because after receiving an Oscar and Grammys on her first time out whereas other stars spend a career chasing the elusive awards makes her A-list?!

People that group is not about what you think. That's BS some ignorant person said and every other ignorant person has been perpetuating it.

BTW, if they were so powerful Hudson would have not gone through her tragedy.

That's great, she has a beautiful voice and I look forward to her tribute.

I have to agree with you on that. Heck, I'd rather have Chaka up there doing it by herself...then listen to Jennifer

Jennifer just doesn't have the voice range for most of Ms Houston's songs. She has talent & can sing but, I feel she "over does it" on every song she does. If she ever learns to tone it down she'd be a much better performer. I was looking forward to Chaka Khan but, I didn't really think she was going to be able to do it. As it turns out she has declined because it's emotionally too much for her right now. I do listen to Chaka Khan EVERYDAY & have for years

jennifer hudson is probably the only talented singer who was available on short notice who won't necessarily get choked up and can actually sing.

for the real memorial service, expect chaka, aretha, dionne, faith, cece, mariah - those who actually collaborated with her - to be more prepared to pay her due respect.

I think you're probably right. With such a shocking event, the Grammy's are completely unprepared, but Hudson is there, she loved her, and she'll do her best.

Hope you're right about the memorial service, too. I wouldn't like to think it will turn into a contest between singers when it's supposed to be about Whitney, but with luck they'll figure something out that shows love and respect.

In the meanwhile, I do wish AOL/Huff would get a damn proof reader! This was yet another article with errors in it: it wasn't the Beverly Hills Hotel, it was the Beverly Hilton. And who is 'Show Ken'? Try show HOST. Agghh.

Ms. Hudson is the exact opposite of what made Whitney so great .Hudson over sings and over kills everything. Even her simple diet commercials are filled with "runs" and over singing that make me want to wretch. A poor choice for the beautiful, simpler techique of Whitney (which to me, made her far more talented).

You may be right about Ms. Hudson's technique (I am not qualified to voice an opinion), but she loved Miss Houston, and may be the best choice at such short notice. Not to be overly dramatic, but if the angel Gabriel died, who would you call in at a moment's notice to sing for him? I don't think this is a time for comparing voices-- it's a matter of paying respect, which I'm sure Ms. Hudson can do for someone she very much cared about.
