Nicki Minaj Grammy Dress 2012: Red Versace Cape & 'Pope' Date (PHOTOS)

Nicki Minaj immediately turned heads at the Grammys on Sunday night when she stepped onto the red carpet looking like she'd come straight from... church? A live adaptation of the Da Vinci Code?

The rapper was decked out in a gigantic red Versace cape edged with black beads, red satin gloves and a blonde wig. Her other attention-nabbing accessory: a date on her arm who was done up in a Pope costume.

Uh... we're not sure what's going on here yet, but we suspect the Vatican might not be too stoked.

Huh, so Adele rides the waves of her success solely on her talent and she wins 6 Oscars. I think there's quite a clear message in that for GaGa and Minaj to take to heart.

Beautiful cape but for the rest.... I didn't enjoy because if you want to be sensational you have to back it up and that whole song, dance whatever was really awful. Not provocative, but awful. Madonna has done a lot of things where for myself I have gone, Uh oh, humph or yow but the woman has the talent and artistry to back it up.

Religious views aside, I thought her performance was just horrible in general. If she wants to blast any religion on a public platform then that is her prerogative. That's the beauty of America. We can express ourselves in any way we would like and not fear persecution from our government. But, as I said before I found her performance lacking and thought any message that she was trying to get across fell flat.

I still don't know what to think of it. I give her credit for trying something different and I recall Madonna getting some of the same criticisms in the 80's when she caused similar outrages. I don't know anything at all about her views on faith and spirituality so I think it's wrong to automatically assume she's attacking xtianity.
