The Week In Culture (PHOTOS)

Posted: 02/12/2012 10:27 am

Last week, Oscar statues flew to L.A. where they'll find their rightful homes, a sex worker was the subject of a photo prize and Anna Wintour judged the runways. Click on for more from the week in culture.

The poor woman looks like she is rotting from the inside out. Does she have that 'krokodile' drug use going on? I've seen pictures of the drug's effect and it's horrifying. I am so sorry for her and her daughter. Can't anyone in the Ukraine help her?

So called "normal" guys secretly tap that all the time and keep her in business. How many lawyers, cops, teachers, cable guys, managers, mechanics, etc. pay for her services, then go home to wives and girlfriends, then point at her and say "How gross is that!" when driving around town with people? One tragedy here is that the Johns, unless caught, never face the judgement and scorn this poor woman lives on a daily basis.

Can't stop thinking about Maria. The horrors of drugs and the horrors of prostitution all in one single snapshot of a woman who dug herself so deep into the hole that she is in, that I wonder can this picture be the rope ladder that gets thrown down to save her.
So sad for the 9 year old daughter.

Why did you have to use the Ukrainian hooker as headline photo? Look, I feel badly for the woman, but that won't prevent the nightmare I'm gonna have as soon as I fall asleep.

A sex worker photo. What in the world did she have sex with?

Quite a good argument for legalized prostitution.

OK, I'll say it. Fashion and pop culture are not "Culture," no more than Velveeta is cheese. It may have cheese IN it, but everyone knows the difference, including the Velveeta engineers at Kraft.

I suppose you can call these strictly commercial promotions "culture," if you must. That is so much nicer than "advertising." But they are not "Culture."

Now, where are my opera glasses?

Well, it's not...nature. :) Have to agree, though, that it seems like a cheat to show fashion in this segment.

Especially as Katy Perry and Mr & Mrs Potato Head (yep) were featured near the end of that slide show. Culture? Needs more Shostakovich, less spuds.
