Celebrities Known By One Name (PHOTOS)

Cher. Madonna. Beyonce. A star has really hit it big when they're known by only one name, and it seems that there's a new addition to the group.

When Adele won her Grammy for Song of the Year at the 54th Grammy Awards, she was announced as "Adele Adkins," leaving many viewers scratching their heads.

"Adele Adkins? Who? Oh, you mean Adele."

Just a few short years since taking the music scene by storm, the British songstress, born Adele Laurie Blue Adkins, has entered the realm of single-moniker stars. There's no need to know her surname, for she'll always just be "Adele" to the world, without the stage-name silliness that often permeates Hollywood (we're looking at you, Gaga).

SFW! Is it cooler to be known as a Star with One Name. Big deal. John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Jamie Lee Curtis, Arnold Swartzenegger, and Paul McCartney. They all had TWO names, big deal.

Gudmundsdotter means the daughter of Gudmund, her mother. In Iceland & Greenland as well as paarts of Norway, a male child's last name is the fatherr's first name with son added - i.e. Sigmundson and a female child's last name is the mother's first name with dotter (daughter) added.

OMG! Now that HuffPo has exposed her REAL name on a website, the whole world will know, and they'll look her name up in the phone book and know her phone number and call and ask her if her refrigerator is running and maybe even go to her house! Her life is ruined! At least until she marries Austin Jordan Wagner and becomes Mrs. Adele Austin Jordan Wagner, and live happily ever after chained to a pipe in his basement.

We always knew Beyonce's last name was Knowles. And Cher's last name was her married name Bono. Not sure what her maiden name was. Adele is just fabulous. Wish she hadn't decided to take such a long break as 5 years. I wonder what her "happy" songs would sound like.

I find it interesting that the majority of celebs shown here are African American. One of the most currently famous celebs right now is P!nk. Where is she in this list? Why was she excluded?

It seems today if you are famous that it should only be a one name. She has a great voice and we just lost the most amazing voice of Whitney.
