'House' Series Finale Date Set For May 21

'House' Gets An End Date

Mark your calendars "House" fans. The Fox medical drama will officially end its eight-season run on May 21.

"While it's with much regret, and a lump in our throats, we respect the decision Hugh, David and Katie have made," Kevin Reilly, president of entertainment at Fox, said in a statement. "A true original, on the page and amazingly brought to life by Hugh Laurie, there is only one Dr. House. For eight seasons, the entire 'House' team has given us -- and fans around the world -- some of the most compelling characters and affecting stories ever seen on television... For all the above, we wholeheartedly thank them, and the fans who have supported the show."

The end doesn't come as much of a surprise. Series star Laurie was only contracted through Season 8, which was renewed amidst budget cuts. Additionally, Lisa Edelstein left the show between Season 7 and Season 8. Laurie has also said he'll retire from TV after "House" ends.

"House" isn't the only show that may have overstayed its welcome on TV. From another long-running medical drama to the current teen favorite that just won't quit, click through the slideshow below to see which shows overstayed their welcome on the small screen.
