Sharp, soft, round, and even blue -- there are a lot of different cheeses out there. And whether you think feta is bettah or queso is king, one thing most everyone can agree on is: the creamier, the better.

Fortunately, when it comes to busting out the baking pans, there's no better way to add a whole lot of love to your homestyle cooking than with a touch of Philly.

If it's a loaded pizza, creamy pasta, or ravioli bake you're looking to make all the more savory, check out what Kraft's creamier shredded cheeses can do for your culinary favorites below.

Fresh Tomato and Basil Pizza
1 of 7
Prep Time: 15 min. | Total Time: 30 min. | Makes: 8 servings.

What You Need
1 lb. refrigerated pizza dough
1 Tbsp. olive oil
1 pkg. (8 oz.) KRAFT Shredded Mozzarella Cheese with a TOUCH OF PHILADELPHIA, divided
3 cups cherry tomatoes, halved
1 cup loosely packed fresh basil leaves, torn
freshly ground black pepper

Make It
Heat oven to 500ºF. Pat and stretch dough into 14x6-inch rustic rectangle on baking sheet sprayed with cooking spray; brush with oil. Top with 1 cup cheese.
Combine tomatoes, basil and pepper; spread over pizza. Top with remaining cheese.
Bake 12 to 15 min. or until crust is golden brown.

Serving Suggestion:
Serve with a mixed green salad and your favorite fresh fruit to round out the meal.

Special Extra:
Fresh basil is a tasty addition to fresh mixed green salads or even a simple plate of garden-ripened tomatoes in the summer. Layer whole basil leaves between tomato slices or sprinkle tomatoes with chopped basil. Try chopped fresh basil on other garden-fresh vegetables such as steamed green beans or grilled zucchini.

Has anyone made the rustic tart? Did 4 cups of hash browns seem a bit much? And did anyone notice that cream cheese is in the ingredient list, but nowhere in the instructions?
10:47 AM on 02/16/2012
The shredded cheese they recommend has a bit of Philly cream cheese in it :) Haven't tried it yet, but I've seen it and I can't imagine that anything with cream cheese is bad... sounds delish!

My husband ended up making this for me for Valentine's day - had to reduce the hash browns to 1 cup & he winged it with the cheese & added browned sage, but OMG it was ABSOLUTELY delish!!!! Highly recommended (even better if you have a husband who's willing to cook it for you, lol!)

Just for the historical record - egg plant is also breadfruit

the brits of yore had high hopes for it as slave food in the Caribbean - not sure how that worked out

Just for the historical record...what on earth made you think that!

Did you mean that metaphorically?

a passable pizza base is dinner plate sized arab pita bread - ~ 5x = ~$1.50 - edges may get a bit singed

Don't get me wrong, I love cheese, especially sharp cheddar, and sharp american, but it seems that these days they are putting cheese on just about "everything"! I like to taste the item I'm eating once in a while you know, not smothered in cheese.
Also, I'm wanting to try "egg plant" could someone give me an idea of what it tastes like? I've heard a very good way to prepare it is to cut in thick slices, cover in corn meal, and fry the slices in a skillet, is this a good way to eat it?
05:05 PM on 02/14/2012
My husband and I love egg plant. It is very good the way you said or I like to bread the egg plant slices in flour, egg and italian breadcrumbs, lay on cookie sheet, drizzle with olive oil and bake in oven at 400 for 15-20 min. turn and bake 15 min or so more. Serve with homemade tomato or spagetti sauce. Or you can use jarred spagetti sauce. We sprinkle parmesan cheese and pepper flakes on it. Or you can top the egg plant with a slice of mozzarella. Very good and fun to eat. Enjoy.

Does it taste a lot like squash by itself? Or does it have a unique flavor of its own?

Nothing wrong with a Pizza with a whole wheat crust, low fat Mozzarella, a good sauce minus the extra salt some onions, bell peppers and mushrooms and if you like it a bit of eggplant.

The sodium and fat count on the recipes make them very unhealthy.

Given that many families rely on the drive-thru for dinner these days, some processed cheese and canned dough is actually a step up. Besides, no one is suggesting we eat these things every single day of the week, and no one is telling us we can't substitute healthier versions of the ingredients. Don't like the fat in the cheese? Use less or use the low fat kind. Too much salt in the sauce? Use low sodium versions or make your own. Easy fixes. Moderation, common sense, adaptation, and all that jazz.
07:49 PM on 02/14/2012
Yes, you know that, but many families don't. Writing a recipe with a healthy outlook (even without mentioning it in the recipe) would vastly improve the chances that those ignorant of healthy eating would still derive benefit.

The best pizza we have ever had starts with a home made crust and fresh whole milk mozzarella cheese. The recipe I have makes the entire house smell like an Italian pizzaria!

As people relearn taste after getting away from fat (including real cheeses) and sweets too much of either fat or sugar and high fructose corn syrup spoils the flavor.

There is NO SUCH THING as too much cheese!

Walla Walla Sweets ARE great BUT you will need a stronger (i.e., more robust flavor) onion that can hold its own with these cheeses. Try a regular yellow or a white.
