Medical Marijuana Week

Happy Medical Marijuana Week!

In celebration of America's safest illicit drug, cannabis activists across the county have planned a series of events designed to put pressure on elected officials and bring more attention to the issue.

Gatherings across the country include phone banks to the White House, petitions, rallies and even movie nights. San Franciscans plan to stage demonstrations at both Tuesday's Board of Supervisors meeting and President Obama's local fundraiser Thursday night.

Medical marijuana in San Francisco has been on a roller-coaster ride as of late. At the end of last month, the city's previously-suspended dispensary licensing program resumed.

The following week, the San Francisco Examiner reported that the DEA has begun investigating a dozen local cannabis clubs, including renowned shops The Vapor Room, Grass Roots and The Green Cross. Similar investigations in the past have led to dispensaries' closures.

The future of legalized medical marijuana may be murky, but this week, the activists' message will be clear. Take a look at San Francisco's calendar of events below, and click over to Americans for Safe Access for a more detailed list of nationwide events.

Good luck with trying to influence Obama now or after the election. He has turned a deaf ear to this subject except to re-ignite the drug wars in the US........something even Geo Bush was smart enough to leave alone.

While nobody with a medical condition should ever be persecuted, I also believe that one shouldn't have to have a medical card to purchase mj. Legalize for all adult use not just limited medical use.

why limit it to adults?

it's GOOD FOR KIDS too:

Marijuana is Gods alcohol. If it was legal I would trade it for alcohol in a heart beat. Alcohol gives you diabetes(ASAP), dehydration which could cause Kidney failure. It increases norepinephrine so sleeping after a beer or two can be difficult without other sleep aids. It strips the vitamins (B- Vitamins) from you which causes Dementia. (Korsakoff's disease, look it up.) It promotes arthritis, increases your stress level by increasing you cortisol levels. Causing people to take mental altering drugs after prolonged alcohol use. Promotes H.Pylori, candida, IBS, and other intestinal bad bacterial growth. It kills more people on the road than anything and the only benefit it has for human life is for the COPERATIONS to get rich from. The little conservative fun you are having will not last long with alcohol. Most boozers suffer from the disease shortly after consuming on even just a weekend basis.
I understand Marijuana has it's negatives but for an alternative to alcohol marijuana wins in my book.

Why can't the Fed just go focus on some real problems and stop wasting time and money pursuing marijuana growers, users, and distributors?

One of the reasons I am a dissedent to America is prohibition of Marijuana. I think a lot of other people feel the same way also.

It causes lung damage at a much accelerated rate than nicotine. It can cause paranoia attacks. It kills your ambition ("the more you smoke, the more you smoke"). No one will ever accomplish anything of note while high: no building bridges, stopping a war etc. Sitting around on your couch all day going "wow, man" is such a great way to spend your life.

The great thoughts you think you are having are "the phantoms and delusions of Sauron". You're not going to get your calculus homework done. You'll forget how to spell your middle name. You'd forget want you want to do next, except you won't want to do anything next.

And, as a sop to the conservatives: you're not praying, or going to church, or reading your Bible. Drugs are keeping you away from God.

Having said all that, I'm for legalization. Putting people in jail over a little harmless fun is silly. And who cares what conservatives say anyway.
11:26 AM on 02/14/2012
Nicotine does not cause lung damage at all.

Many people accomplish a great many things while under the influence of marijuana.

Passing a bill to allow medical marijuana fuels the pharmaceutical company coffers even more. Legalize it, PERIOD. Let the money go to the farmers in america!

I am 60 years old and was so hoping to see marijuana legelized in my life time but I am having doubts as I cross the bridge into my passing.

Don't wait, grow your own. A state-of-the-art setup isn't very expensive. Nobody really cares anymore if you've got a plant or two...as long as you're discreet with it.
And, don't pass yet. Plenty of varieties to try.
01:35 PM on 02/14/2012
Exactly!! Repealing the prohibition with full legalization can aid small farms and nurseries currently not not able to compete with larger corporations with other typical crops. They could sell only to processors whom can package it like cigarettes and sold next to beer & liquor to adults only. It can be taxed like tobacco and creating state revenue to aid schools and other programs instead of massive expenditures of our taxes trying to erradicate it.

The dispensary is a fun part of process. I never want to see weed cigaretts as like tobacco you will have no idea what other chemicals they will add. I want it in coffee shops and sold out of glass jars where it stays freshest. Weed ain't like cigs. You don't smoke 24 joints a day. One joint of medical grade can last ya all day. And vaporizer technology should and will get better so it will be even more safe.

or w/o a script..

like the good old days:

Marijuana: The Forgotten Medicine

Kim Greenwood of Washington state passed this along March 24:
.... It had been 1994 when I last hit the crowds, gathering signatures for Hemp. Yesterday I was back in the saddle, wandering the "Festival of Trees" in Port Townsend, a small and friendly crowd of plant buyers. There's something about this activity..... I especially enjoy the anecdotes that come my way, the confessions I hear, the stories.
Today, for instance, an older woman - in her sixties, I would guess - insisted on signing, and as she did so said, "My mother used to get cannabis at the drugstore to use for her Asthma. It came in a red can. She pulled out the leaf, and there was something on the lid that she would put it in and light it and then inhale the smoke. It was the only thing she found to help her asthma. She was so surprised when she went to the store and couldn't find it anymore."

"That must have been a long time ago," I said.

"Early 1930s," she said.

It was worth being out there all day - not to mention the 75 signatures - just to get that little bit of oral history, history the government would just as soon we all pretend never happened, FORGET it ever happened. I'm telling you so you'll help remember that it happened.

Move to a state that allows it like California or Colorado. I couldn't believe it when I finally realized there are about 5 weed stores in my town!!! So much cooler.
