Rex Sinquefield, Retired Investor, Apologizes For Quote Linking KKK With Public Schools (VIDEO)

After sparking controversy by quoting a former judge who stated the Klu Klux Klan designed the American public school system to hurt African-Americans at an event at Lindenwood University last week, Rex Sinquefield has apologized, the Saint Louis Beacon reported.

According to a report by MissouriNet, Sinquefield is known for donating millions of dollars to political campaigns and supporting petitions against teacher tenure.

The Saint Louis Post-Dispatch detailed Sinquefield's comment, which was an attempt to quote a former judge:

"I mean, this is -- you know what. There was a column written and I hope I don't offend anyone. There was a published column by a man named Ralph Voss, who was a former judge in Missouri. He now owns and writes for a newspaper in Central Missouri called the Unterrified Democrat -- what a name -- and it's in Osage County, Missouri, and he starts off and it's something like this. He said, "A long time ago, decades ago, the Ku Klux Klan got together and said how can we really hurt the African-American children permanently? How can we ruin their lives? And what they designed was the public school system."

MissouriNet also has an audio recording of Sinquefield's comments.

The comment has garnered criticism, particularly from Missouri educators.

Missouri National Education Association President Chris Guinther conveyed her disappointment in a statement, according to KMOX TV:

"A slap in the face of every educator who has worked tirelessly in a public school to improve the lives of Missouri’s children. Rex Sinquefield needs to explain himself and apologize to all students, parents and Missourians."

In response, Sinquefield issued an apology, the station reported.

"I apologize for my reference to a quote from Ralph Voss of the Unterrified Democrat. The public discourse on these issues is too critical for an ill-timed, inappropriate reference. It is my sincere hope that this does not distract us from the important mission of helping all children access high quality education."

She's also find some other things different.

She would see more skin.

More overt sexual behavior.

She would see that neither student nor teacher expected any learning to be going on.

Finally she would see that students no longer tried to make a pretense of paying any attention.

And that both teachers and students agreed the teacher had no authority. "if I inavertently offended anyone."

Just today, or yesterday a Congressman told Maxine Waters (R.CA), who is black, to get off the "coke pipe".
Let someone push a little further.

Apology not accepted.

Public school hurt black kids, well apparently they missed the President because that is a smart man that has benefited from the public schools. Although I know he told a lie because for the pass month they have been campaigning on getting rid of public school and privatizating schools...what a liar.

Actually, the President's mother, grandmother and grandfather all were able to scrounge up enough (with scholarships) to send him to a private school in Hawaii. It's in his autobiography. It was a major hardship and it took three adults to pool their resources.

If that was true why would the GOP want to change it?

Once again the GO/TP shows a willingness to invent history to fit their story.

What is it about educated, supposedly informed people who make these outrageous statements and then turn around to say "I'm so sorry...I didn't mean it that way"? Does that make it all better? And let's face it...lately it seems like all of the apologizing is coming from the GOP.

They get it out, it runs through the Right Wing blogs, becomes a talking point for the D-List Right Wing talk shows (like those on U-stream)., and winds up as truth to a segment of the population with no ability to reason above an eight grade level. The apology is ignored.

Say a harmful thing lacking in any factual basis. Apologize for it later.

The lie gets way more press than the apology. The lie becomes the truth for an important and large segment of the population - a segment that has been snowed largely since Reagan. We're on God's side, they tell these people but do little to back their rhetoric with action. These are oligarchs looking for shills.

WAT?

Actually, the Puritans really were the original pushers of public education in America, though they pretty much just wanted to teach reading so people could read Bibles. They'd get together and collect money from the whole town to run it. People trying to help kids stay out of factories during the Industrial revolution started the whole mandated education thing.

But go ahead, claim it's the KKK. Sure, bro.

Hyperbole is the method to their propoganda madness. Make outrageous claims knowing people are too lazy to research or rebutt. Instead many people just believe what they hear, that is why we are a nation of sheaple.
