Teen Sweethearts Reunited 70 Years Later

First Posted: 02/13/2012 2:44 pm Updated: 02/13/2012 3:00 pm

The notion of love conquering all never rang truer than for former high school sweethearts Betty Hove, 85, and John Grosch, 87. According to ABC News, the couple, who met in California when Grosch was working at a grocery store, lost touch after Grosch enlisted in the Navy during World War II. Thanks to the wonders of modern technology, Hove recently reconnected with her former flame just in time for Valentine's Day.

"I never got over this guy. He was always tucked away in the corner of my heart," Hove told an ABC affiliate. Watch the above video to hear more about their planned reunion.

And this isn't the only adorable story of reunited high school sweethearts popping up in the news today: The New London Patch reports the heartwarming story of 57-year-old Danny Rakow and 56-year-old Teresa Bianco (now Teresa Rakow), who first met at a high school dance. 40 years later, Teresa found Danny on Facebook and began corresponding to catch up. They fell madly in love all over again and two years later, the couple got engaged. Click here to see their photos from then and now.

There are also a few celebs who have teenage romance stories of their own. Despite achieving fame, Jon Bon Jovi, Eli Manning, and LeBron James are just a few of the select group who ended up with their high school sweethearts.

Reminds me of my Grandma and her second husband. They were HS sweethearts and were not allowed to marry because they were different religions. They reuntied 50 something years later and were married for 15 years until his death.

well, i wouldn't want to revisit this myself. . . an unrequitted love would remain a melancholy experience

Beautiful story!! I love to hear about happy, reunions. I can't help but notice that many people didn't get to spend a lifetime with the love of the lives because someone, interferred! I think that is so wrong. Parents, friends and folks should never stand in the way of a couple's, love. Some things in life are meant to be and when it is interrupted, can cause much pain and sorrow. Maybe the relationship would not have worked out but they deserve to find out for themselves. A lesson I hope is remembered for future generations. Many blessings for all those who have found love, again!

I am very happily married but my first love holds a special place in my heart and in my past..I would never look him up on facebook or friend him as its is not called for BUT if my husband of 28 years (and counting) was to pass away before me or we ended up splitting up :( and if my first love was divorced or widowed, I think I would look to make contact..I hear about him through old childhood friends and I am sure he of me but that is as far as it goes..I wonder if memories get jaded through time though?

At my recent 40th high school reunion, two of my former classmates rediscovered each other, having not seen each other since graduation four decades ago. Both had been divorced. They bumped into each other at one of our reunion events and started to talk. They lived on opposite ends of the country, literally, but ended up getting married less than three months after the reunion was over.

There is something about those you grow up with - common memories and experiences of your youth - that becomes very attractive as you grow in age.
