THROB Explores The Physical And Emotional Exertion Of The Heart (PHOTOS, VIDEO)

THROB: Dance Explodes How Hearts Pound

So often is the heart symbolized as the house of the soul or the vehicle of love, sometimes we forget it is a highly physical, hardworking organ of our bodies.

Jody Oberfelder Dance Projects' work THROB is a rigorous performance inspired by the biological workings of the heart that actually monitors the heart fluctuations of the dancers as they exert themselves physically and emotionally.

The performance is based off conversations with cardiologist Dr. Holly Andersen and combines all purposes of the heart, from metaphorical love den to physiological organ. The work will be accompanied by an original soundtrack by composer Andy Akiho as well as synthesized sounds derived from the dancers' actual heart rates, as designed by Weston Minissali.

The following is the first of four 25-second videos that will begin to get your pulse racing:

THROB will show Thursday-Saturday, March 1,2, and 3, 8 PM at the Abrons Arts Center.
