Tipico Dominicano Club Shooting Leaves Michael Anthony Lawrence Dead And Marcell Donell Brown Injured

One Dead And One Injured In Shooting Outside Tipico Dominicano Club

An early morning altercation outside Miami's Tipico Dominicano Club and Restaurant escalated to a shooting in which one man was killed and another taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital, reports Miami police.

Miami police spokesman Sgt. Freddie Cruz said that at 12:17 a.m., Wilmen Diaz, 28, and a female exited the Dominican club, located at Northwest 13th Avenue and 36th Street. Once outside, they encountered Michael Anthony Lawrence, 39, and Marcell Donell Brown, 27.

According to Cruz, an argument ensued and Diaz shot a 9mm gun, killing Lawrence and injuring Brown, who remains in stable condition after being shot in the hand.

Unfortunately, Miami club shootings are far from uncommon. Earlier this month, a man entered a Little Havana club, pulled one patron's hair, and started shooting up the venue, injuring two women.

UPDATE: Tipico Dominicano's Claudia Vargas said the shooting occurred about a block from the club. "The family-oriented restaurant and nightclub, who currently employs 5 security guards, prides itself in ensuring a safe atmosphere for it patrons," she wrote in a statement to HuffPost Miami.
