Whitney Houston Death: Aretha Franklin Pays Tribute To Pop Star At North Carolina Concert (VIDEO)

Whitney Houston was considered by many the greatest pop singer of her generation, and last night, she was honored by the most highly regarded popular singer of the 20th century.

At a North Carolina concert, Franklin started to sing "I Will Always Love You," Houston's massive 1992 hit, before segueing into a gospel-tinged remembrance of the singer. "We want to say thank you for your music and legacy," she sang.

Both Houston and Franklin were signed to Clive Davis's Arista Records in the 1980s.

"I just can’t talk about it now. It’s so stunning and unbelievable," Franklin said on her Facebook page. "I couldn’t believe what I was reading coming across the TV screen. My heart goes out to Cissy, her daughter Bobbi Kris, her family and Bobby.”

My prayers and condolences to Whitney Houston's family. To all the commenters- if you can't say words of encouragement/sympathy-pls say nothing-No one knows how Whitney Houston's heart was with GOD before she crossed over. There are many troubled souls in every family-If there is a perfect
sin free family/individual in this universe I would like to meet them. Sin is sin and for the record-GOD dispises the sin not the individual-Instead of unkind comments-pray for the family-We all know where we have been-but we don't know where we are destined-The Strong must bear the infirmities of the weak according to the word. Whether rich/poor-celebrity/non celebrity- we all will cross over-now how we cross over we will never know.

Now...I'll start out saying that this could be just me....and I know I'm gonna get beat over the head for this....but why is it...if Aretha was Whitney's Godmother...did she find out about her death the way the rest of us found out. When she told Don Lemon how she found out....I kind of went...huh????

Because Whitney is not like you or I, as such a huge celebrity her death was likely leaked to the press before they took the time to inform her extended family.

The difference there is that she had family there, so those close to her would've have found out within half and hours time. Her publicist made VH1 aware of it right after it happened...because of an inteview they had planned with her that evening. So that is why I questioned it.

I was thinking the same thing.

I imagine everything was in such an uproar that the next of kin were contacted but was too distraught to contact the rest of the family. Sometimes family ASSUME other immediate members are contacting the extended family and loved ones.

I imagine Aretha's weeping and wailing sounds better than most of us singing our best. Even in this video she's better than most of the artists on major labels today.
