ChefHangout Uses Google+ Hangouts To Make Money For Chefs

In what’s probably the first attempt that I’ve seen to monetize Google+, a site called ChefHangout has a unique approach to cooking lessons utilizing the powerful Google+ Hangouts video conference feature.

While Google+ has been somewhat methodical slow in rolling out public APIs for its social network, the Hangout API has been available for some time now.

this wasn't completely clear to me but what is the difference between that and just watching a video? when cooking, you learn by doing, not just watching.

The difference is this. A video is one way communication. A Hangout is two way. You interact with the chef and the chef can watch you as you cook along with him/her. This way, you can ask real time questions via webcam and the chef can watch you as you watch them. Classes are limited to 10 total seats, so up to 9 people can learn from one chef at a time and then, when the chef leaves as class ends, they can dine together if they wish. It's a way for families and friends to bridge geographical barriers.
