Tommy Jordan, Dad Who Shot Daughter's Laptop, Says He'd Do It Again (VIDEO)

Tommy Jordan Responds Criticism Shooting Daughters

Tommy Jordan found his way to YouTube fame by shooting his daughter's laptop on camera last week. Now, despite the criticism he's received, the father says he'd do it all over again.

It all started when Jordan's 15-year-old daughter, Hannah, wrote a note complaining about her responsibilities and posted it on Facebook.

Dad, who's an information technology specialist, spotted the message and took to the Internet to teach his daughter a very public lesson by sending a bullet through her computer.

Days after the video went viral, the North Carolina father took to his Facebook wall to announce he would not be talking to the media, MyNorthwest.com observed. In the post, Jordan emphasized his actions didn't harm anyone:

"My daughter isn't hurt, emotionally scarred, or otherwise damaged, but that kind of publicity has never seemed to be to have a positive effect on any child or family," Jordan wrote.

In addition to receiving thousands of opinions about his actions, Jordan received a visit from the police and Child Protective Services over the weekend, according to the Los Angeles Times. During the visit, a social worker reviewed some parenting tips while the officers allegedly congratulated him for a lesson well taught.

In an open letter to Jordan, HuffPost blogger Lisa Belkin asked the gun-toting father about the lesson's primary takeaway and suggested he re-examine his approach.

Jordan posted on his Facebook wall that he'd do the whole thing over again, though with a few minor tweaks: He'd ditch the cigarette, retract calling his daughter an "ass," change hats and shine his boots. Otherwise, he stands by his actions.

NBC's "Today" polled readers on the incident and reported that 74 percent agreed with Jordan's actions.

However, a Mashable poll showed a majority of readers think Hannah will only continue to be resentful, just without a laptop.

Somehow I missed this when it happened in February. I love it! The children in my family were raised and expected to respect our parents and other adults. We were expected to attend school and have good grades. We were expected to contribute around the house. If we screwed up, there were consequences. As soon as we were old enough we worked for our own spending money. The rare family evenings out for pizza or a movie were such a cherished treat! We adored our parents and didn't want to disappoint them. We are all happy, well adjusted adults and we've done well for ourselves. Our children are happy, well adjusted children and young adults. Our parents did not over analyze everything (Dr. Phil style)..... they had common sense and just did what seemed right. Hannah Jordan may not appreciate her father now but someday she will. Good for you Tommy Jordan....it's so refreshing to see someone who isn't a hand wringing parent, constantly wondering if they are "damaging" little Junior.

Can someone say overreaction of the century? His daughter hides a post from her parents, so he (most likely) hacks into her facebook to see that post (obviously invading her privacy) because oh no, she doesn't want to say this to their face. And then he goes berserk shooting her laptop.

I don't know who is less mature the father or his daughter. Tommy Jordan, you're a parent act like one, don't act like an angry little kid throwing a temper tantrum. I bet his daughter is now scared of him and he just gave her more ammunition for attacking him the next time she's with her friends (way to go!). I'm betting she's just going to keep on talking trash about her dad when she's angry at him on her phone anyway.

Something tells me this guy doesn't have much experience with teenagers. I mean OMG she's complaining about her responsibilities and yelling about her parents on facebook, she must be a horrible daughter since there aren't any teenagers that do that, oh no *sarcasm*

It's funny (and kind of sad) that this parent is getting praise, but looking at how there are so many parents out there that shouldn't be parents, it's not all that surprising.

Don't get me wrong I see how this is disrespectful but shooting her laptop multiple times? Her father definitely has some anger issues, hopefully he's not abusive to his daughter too.

I completely agree with the way he handled this! My father would have done the same (or similar) to any of his children. I distinctly remember him kicking in my bedroom door when Islammed it in his face because I was angry. Even though I didn't get the door back for 2 years I have never again slammed a door in his face and you better believe that I remembered why.

Parents have every right to assert authority over their children. Change with the times! Parents have to be more drastic now than they did 20 years ago because children are more disrespectful now than they were 20 years ago.

By the way, when I made the suggestion of wiping the hard drive and selling it I wasn't saying what he did was wrong. It's just different because my parents were and still are money-oriented. You don't waste what you work for and take care of what you have. I spent $600 for my laptop and had it for six years. I was responsible for all aspects of it period. I would have been ecstatic if my father had offered to upgrade mine for $130 but it sounds like her father did it for free. I bet it felt really good to shoot it though - who hasn't wanted to put a bullet through a piece of technology that was ticking them off?

Personally I'd keep the laptop and play mind games against a brat like that. My parents were creative with punishments and some were really menial, such as pulling weeds out of a garden and yes, doing chores that were expected and being paid an allowance for other chores. That father had to work his butt off and spend his time fixing and upgrading a computer. I'd wipe the computer and sell it personally. More painful to that kid and sensible for the parent but putting a bullet through a source of frustration can be really therapeutic too. I bought my first computer with my own money period. I would have never asked my parents to spend that much money on me. In a country where parenting isn't a responsibility it's good to see two parents (Mom wanted a bullet put through it too) doing what they are supposed to do. Well done sir! He knows his kid best so I can't really argue with what he did.

All he did was teach his daughter how to deal when you don't get your way. Overpower, control, demand of others by force. Teenagers need to be heard, spoken to and treated mindfully, just like ANY other human walking on this planet.

That's a two way street.

I don't approve for a second what he did to that computer, I don't even like guns, but I can fully understand.

If I could spend twenty minutes telling you what children/young adults ("born again Christians") are capable of doing to their parents, namely me, it would have you in tears.

My only regrets in this life is that I never used my power, control and demand respect as a parent as my father did with myself and my siblings. To this day, I love and respect that man. I still continue addressing him as "Sir" and when I meet and greet him I still can't tell him enough how much "I love him". I know that I am the person I am today and have achieved because he guided me correctly and I shall forever be grateful.

I would give my left arm to have just a 10th of that kind of respect from my two daughters. I wish there were a way to do it all over again.

Ok, THIS is overdoing it. All she did was complain about chores. That's typical for any kid. So she did it on facebook. What does it matter? Is there really anyone out there who's never complained about their responsibilities as a kid? Probably not. This was totally uncalled for. And now that poor girl is probably always going to see her father as unbalanced. (Which, clearly, he is.)

She should have never posted that on Facebook, but now she'll probably never forgive you for embarrassing her in front of the entire world.

Jesus I'm not a parent but really that's going overboard. Just for one comment that you don't like?

Well done!!! I would make my child donate the computer to a less privileged school where kids want to use the computers to learn :-) And parents: DigiKey! Hack your kids' computers ;-)

If the shooting is "well done" how then do you also donate said computer when it's shot through with a bullet?

I LUV this Dad! He's dramatic, funny, imaginative and creative. It's 21st century parenting.

I'm from NYC and to me and my siblings one of our Dad's favorite expressions was breakin' his foot off up in our azzez.

Why was child services involved? Child services is the ruination of children everywhere. Parents are afraid to discipline children because of the long arm of child services. OK this is the result of child services. Americans are not having enough children to maintain our society. We are having less than 2.0 children per family. And the ones we are having have a greater chance of winding up in some sort of criminal activity or drugs or both. But they have learned one thing. Teenage pregnancies are down. Even they know that children are not worth having.
