'How I Met Your Mother': Robin Faces Two Unexpected Declarations Of Love (VIDEO)

First Posted: 02/14/2012 2:18 am Updated: 02/14/2012 9:56 am

It was an emotional roller coaster for Robin on "How I Met Your Mother" (Mon., 8 p.m. EST on CBS) as she faced an unexpected marriage proposal from Kevin. Only, she didn't feel she could answer him until she came clean about the fact that she's been told she can never have children. But when she told him, he proposed all over again.

It was when she further explained that not only can she not have children, but she doesn't want children that things took a turn. Kevin still insisted on the proposal, but Robin forced him to really think about it. She didn't want regrets or resentment to plague their relationship in the years to come.

The next time we saw her, she was alone and distraught on the roof. Kevin took back his proposal and their relationship ended. Kal Penn has left the building.

But while Robin and Kevin were facing a crossroads in their relationship, Ted was trying to throw off his own desire of finding "the one." Instead, he jumped on board the drunk train with Barney. Only neither of them were into it. A woman Barney had met previously -- who didn't buy into any of his advances -- was in his head, and Ted was in his own.

By the end of it, rather than just be there as a friend for Robin, he told her that he could deal with her not wanting to have children. He then dropped the l-bomb on her, declaring his love. Is this another bait and switch by the writers like when Robin told Barney she was pregnant with his kid? Or are they intending to go back down that relationship road?

Meanwhile, the beautiful woman who was stuck in Barney's head, portrayed by Becki Newton, turned out to be someone he's seen quite a lot. He's a regular at the strip club she works at. Hers is a multi-episode arc, so look for them to cross paths again soon.

"How I Met Your Mother" continues Mondays at 8 p.m. EST on CBS.

They need to wrap this up. This is getting absurd.

Robin isn't the mother, so why are they doing this again? Must be some lame "is what I could have said but didn't" for the next episode perhaps?

I keep watching this show hoping to see the mother. I am aware of how incredibly lame that is.

I think this has to do with robin leaving (she has yet to become a bull fighter, move to Afghanistan, etc)

Oh I hope you're right. This episode was all about how she's not having children. Add that to everything future Ted has said about her and it doesn't make any sense that she would be the mother, and that's fine and all, but if Ted's not over her? How long 'till he meets the mother. (Yeah lame rant I know, sorry. I'm one of those shmucks still watching while waiting for the mother.)
