Newt Gingrich Dismisses Birther Question From Orly Taitz

First Posted: 02/14/2012 11:50 am Updated: 02/14/2012 1:21 pm

Orly Taitz took her anti-Obama birther crusade to GOP presidential candidate Newt Gingrich on Monday, only to come up empty-handed. Again.

At a campaign event in Pasadena, Calif., Gingrich took questions after delivering a stump speech blasting, among other things, "President Obama's war on the Catholic Church" and the U.S. Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, which recently overturned California's same-sex marriage ban.

After answering concerns about the state of his campaign following a slide in recent polls and primary contests, Taitz came forward, suggesting that the birther issue could provide a "boost" to his candidacy if he made it a hallmark issue.

"Somebody who wouldn't be good enough, who wouldn't be certified to pick tomatoes or clean bathrooms is sitting in the White House," Taitz told Gingrich, reportedly to a mixed reception from the largely Tea Party audience.

"That's a project you should pursue," Gingrich responded. He went on to say that with ongoing economic issues and other mismanagement he saw in the president's agenda, he had "enough issues to debate Obama about."

Taitz, a California attorney and dentist, is one of the most outspoken members of the birther movement, whose adherents claim that Obama is ineligible to serve as president because he isn't actually a U.S. citizen. (In fact, the White House has released the president's long-form birth certificate, in hopes of quelling the conspiracy theories.) Taitz, who specifically believes that the president has forged his official documents, made something of a stir in Georgia last month when a judge subpoenaed Obama in a case her clients had filed attempting to bar Obama from the state's primary ballot. Obama's legal team ignored the judge's order, however, and the case proceeded without him. It was eventually dismissed by the judge, who determined that Obama was eligible to be on Georgia's primary ballot in March.

Speaking the day before the Delaware primary, Gingrich hinted he was considering ending his presidential run:

"I think we need to take a deep look at what we are doing," Gingrich said in an interview with NBC News during a campaign stop in Delaware. "We will be in North Carolina tomorrow night and we will look and see what the results are."

According to NBC, the former House speaker said he would need to "reassess" based on the results of Tuesday's primary in Delaware, a state where Gingrich has spent a great deal of time campaigning in recent weeks. Gingrich indicated that the state's 17 delegates were crucial to his viability as a candidate.

She is scarier than the rest of the GOP put together.

Even if she's correct, big deal. What kind of neurotic obsesses about such a minor detail in the grand
scheme of things? She is insane if she can't get over this point. Her cause is empty. He will serve, he will leave office when it's his time, and nothing horrible will happen, except the Republicans will find more crazies to run for office.

This woman is a racist - plain and simple.

The headline should be Newt "encourages" birther movement rather than dismisses it.

Nice try HuffPost! Orly Tatz is merely pointing out that Obama does not fit the Constitutional definition of "Natural Born Citizen, which was affirmed in the binding precedent Supreme Court case of Minor v. Happersett 1875. Minor defines "Natural Born Citizen" as anyone born in the U.S. to citizen parents. Obama's father was clearly never a citizen of any type. Congress, the Supreme Court, and the media are well aware of this and the birther movement was kept open by Obama to deflect and distract the dumbed masses from figuring this out by themselves. Obama, never thought the masses could really be as stupid as they really are.

The Republican establishment is in on the whole fraudulent scam as well. They are going to push Marco Rubio, who is also Constitutionally ineligible just like Obama to be their Vice-President nominee. Although Rubio's parent's did become "Naturalized" U.S. Citizen in 1975, they were not naturalized at the time of his birth in 1971.

What a corrupt and dishonest country we live in. Both parties are major usurpers of the U.S. Constitution. Don't fall for the con game. Turn on the lights and start thinking for yourselves people!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There's no such "binding precedent" in Minor v. Happersett.
01:03 AM on 05/18/2012
A Natural Born Citizen is anyone born on US soil or foreign born children to parents stationed overseas on military duty. i.e. it doesn't matter what country your parents are from!
11:42 AM on 05/18/2012
You have your definitions of "US Citizens" messed up. What you describe is the definintion of a "Native Born" citizen. Someone born on US soil to non US citizen parents. That is what Obama is, as well as Marco Rubio, and even the offspring of illegal alien living in the US.

US law is based on the constitution and past "precedent" Supreme Court cases affirm and establish clarification of the meaning of the constitution. The key word is of course "precedent" authority which is a principle or rule established in a legal case that a court or other judicial body may apply when deciding subsequent cases with similar issues or facts. Black's Law Dictionary defines "precedent" as a "rule of law established for the first time by a court for a particular type of case and adhered to thereafter as binding precedence.

Minor v. Happersett defined and established the "binding precedent" that rule that a "Natural Born Citizen" is someone born on US soil to US citizen parents. It doesn't matter if the parents are either "Native Born"', "Naturalized", or "Natural Born" citizens, just as long as they are in fact both US citizen parents.

Hopefully, that clears it up for you. Obama is very well aware of this, that is why he had his people conveniantly wipe and scrub the Minor case from the Justia.com websites for nearly 3 years, until lega scholars figured it out. He was scared to death that people would finally figure it out.

The truth is Orly is a Man... Check his birth certificate. He was born a man in Israel and moved to Iraq to have a sex change operation.

Tell Ya what, Newt:
When your Moon Base "Plutocratia" is established, have Orly be the Base Commander and that Bigmouth Brietbart can be her assistant. They are the perfect choices as they appear to be on another planet anyway.
Good job, Orly. Your efforts are really helping our economy get back on it's feet, NOT!

Newt didn't dismiss her outright..just told her to pursue it on her own. If desperation hits in GA I can see Newt embracing her racist rhetoric just as he used racism for his benefit in SC...

Excellent point. What I saw this headline, I thought I was going to read the first Newt Gingrich story in months that didn't make him look like a slimy bottom feeding hypocrite, but I was mistaken. As you say, he's keeping his options open.

I have a pet theory that Orly Taitz might be an actress working for the Democrats to goad Republicans into taking ridiculous positions. I have no evidence to back it up. I guess I just prefer my theory to reality. Maybe Taitz and I have something in common after all...

It isn't the stories that make him look like a slimy, bottom feeding hypocrit-he IS a slimy bottom feeding hypocrite!

I think a lot of folks believe the same as she, but will not talk about it or just agree with others because they do not want to ridiculed.

Sheriff Arapio is supposed to publish the findings of his investigators I think 1 March; we'll see what comes out of that.

Let me make a prediction.

He will republish the 'doubts' and 'suspicions' that have been raised by Taitz and her fellow birthers, and suggest that someone somewhere ought to do something about them.
