Parenting Must-Haves: Everyday Items Moms & Dads Love

With kids comes stuff. Previously untouched areas of your living room sprout baby swings, high chairs and game consoles; the kitchen cabinets overflow with sippy cups and snacks. Some purchases make good sense (bookshelves), some are indulgent (matching family scooters?) and many are downright silly. But, a precious few are must-haves -- parenting products you love almost as much as the kids themselves.

In honor of Valentine's Day, it's time to show these standout items how much you care, to say thank you for $1.99 wet wipe travel packs and the mother of all mommy saviors: the cellphone.

Of course, not everything needs to cost money. There are songs, catchphrases and communities who deserve a round of applause too. The only rule in this holiday game is that when asked to complete the sentence, "I <3 my _____," you must not say "kids," "husband" or "wife." Because we all love our families -- that's a given -- so for a moment, in the name of sharing a few parenting secrets, give your affection to the STUFF.

While I was still pregnant, my upstairs neighbor told me she'd share her trick for getting a baby to sleep through the night "when I was ready." About three weeks in, I wanted her secret. "The Miracle Blanket," she said. "But don't try it for another month or so, when she's big enough to be wrapped in one." We waited patiently, and at two months old, my daughter looked like a little burrito -- and slept for eight hours straight. I have never encountered a product with a more appropriate name.
